I read the bad reviews by decided to look at the book anyway.  Whoever wrote those reviews (must be the same person) is clearly delusional.  This book is beautiful,  has some of the most easy to follow instructions of any baking book I have seen, and is completely adorable.  I also tried the strawberry cake recipe and was so pleasantly surprised at it's wonderful flavor and richness.  It is strawberry cake that is not from a box, a big plus in you were at ask me.  I think that whom ever thought it was ok to leave such false comments about this book was trying to attack the author for some personal reason.

Surprise-Inside Cakes is a phenomenal book. These ideas are truly revolutionary in the cake decorating world. Amanda's cakes are beautiful  in side and outside. Imagine cutting into a cake to reveal a hidden surprise!  Your guests will LOVE it! Filled with full-page, stunning photographs, as well as detailed process shots, Surprise-Inside Cakes takes you through each step to make the perfect surprise-inside cake for your friends and family. Amanda writes with passion about her craft, and you will surely enjoy getting to know her through her stories and personal anecdotes. Don't let a cowardly anonymous reviewer sway your opinion of this book. I have personally used Amanda's recipes and techniques with great success in my own kitchen. Also Amanda encourages readers to use her delicious cake recipes, box mix cakes, or their favorite family recipes. Start where you are most comfortable!

I read Amanda's blog all the time and even used her cake recipe and rose technique to make my wedding cake. And trust me I can't decorate and it came out beautiful.  I have made a few of the recipes from the book all turning out well.  I have yet to try any of the shapes but I have confidence after doing the rose cake that I can do it!

This is so much more than a cookbook!  It is a cookbook, photography book, and coffee table book all wrapped into one!  The detailed step by step instructions and pictures are amazing and inspiring, so much, that I was able to make and decorate a beautiful layered cake and applied the technique to cupcakes as well.   I felt like I “got to know” the author, through her personal stories and antidotes; I read the book cover to cover, and can’t say that very many cookbooks.  I now follow her blog, I am baker.  Surprise Inside Cakes, makes a great casual book for the coffee table; I leave my copy on the kitchen bar, which has sparked many conversations.  I have also given the book as gifts, and have purchased for some upcoming gifts.  They have all loved the book! One of the gift recipients, is as a 2nd grade teacher, she shared the book with her class as a fun way to learn to read measurements and directions.  My own kids, love looking through the book and it has started a baking frenzy at our house!

For the, what seems to be one person bashing this book, I think your problem is that you are jealous. I found this book to be cute, fun and inspiring.  I  think it's awesome when people, like Amanda, have the will and desire to  do something positive and go after what they want.  After looking through the book, and myself not being a baker, I believe will the will and patience I can make any one of these cakes.  The instructions are clear and the series of pictures are a Godsend.  If you want to support and own an inspiring book about baking, this is the one for you to pick up with out hesitation. Amanda, great job on the book and I look forward to what you dream up next!

I'm not alone in my love for this book. My children have devoured it, bookmarking cakes they want to make. Step-by-step (and gorgeous) pictures and easy to understand instructions make the cakes doable. I also love how Amanda included a chart of different cakes to try based on the difficulty level. I can't wait for the sequel!

I was so excited to receive this book, I am a fairly accomplished baker and was ready to take it to the next level.  Upon trying my first cake, I was disappointed to see it not release from the pan. I had sprayed the pan with Pam, as directed. So from there I lined it with parchment paper, then greased it and it worked. Second cake and part Of the same "surprise" was to bake the strawberry recipe in one pan, no time given for baking it, also I think by  Looking at the picture, red food coloring was added , but not listed in the recipe. I will continue to try new recipies.

I only down loaded the sample to see what this book was like. The sample gave several recipes but not any instructions for the fancy cakes. It did give a lot of hints about baking the perfect cake. It was interesting. AD

The strawberry cake recipe turned out extremely dense and flat tasting.  Needed salt and possibly another liquid ingredient.  One of the worst cakes I've baked.  The chocolate frosting was also disappointing.  And I agree with other reviews on the disappointing and unappetizing techniques.   Probably not going to try any of the dough-like filling.  I'm an experienced baker and this was disappointing.
