Surrender All by Joni Lamb is a powerful guide to turning control of your life over to God. Lamb and her husband, Marcus, own Daystar Television and have a terrific testimony as to what God has done in their lives, after they surrendered their finances to Him. The book is filled with absolutely amazing stories about how God has completely turned around marriages, finances, health, and careers after they were surrendered to Him. Lamb includes Scripture to back up each story, and her writing style is very conversational. It's like talking about God with a trusted friend.

In Joni Lamb's book she talks about what she and her husband Marcus went through to bring the vision God gave them of Daystar Television Network to life. She tells of stepping out in faith and almost falling, of the trials and tribulations of the attacks of the enemy. The embarrassment of having the Dept of Revenue seize the equity of their home when they had done nothing wrong, of having to put their necks on the line over and over. The amazing thing is that she never whines or complains or says "Woe is me, look what I went through!", she just tells it like it is and it is beautiful and simple. My faith was stirred up just be reading about her testimony of what God did for her and Marcus. Oh, did I mention... that is just the introduction!
Joni has a way of telling stories that are relevant and charming that really drew me into her story. She doesn't lecture at you, she sits down with you for a cup of tea and what comes out is this intimite conversation that stirs your soul and warms your heart.
Joni shows you chapter by chapter how to surrender all areas of your life, some that you are probably already struggling to surrender and some areas that you may not have even thought of turning over to God yet.
Sometimes I struggle to get through non-fiction books, slogging through points and catch phrases and rhetoric. I didn't slog through Joni's at all. What a joy to read! Highly recommended.
Defeat, lose, quit-these are the words that come to mind when we think of surrender. Total surrender is not easily accomplished, nor is it a natural response to becoming a follower of Christ. It is, however, possible. Jesus modeled submission perfectly for us in the garden the night before his crucifixion. We are called to follow His lead.
Surrender All begins with Joni Lamb in a garden of sorts, a neighbor's yard. Joni, age six, pushes her friend off a swing and soon discovers that confession is indeed good for the soul. As Joni's story moves us through her dating years, she shares her first major white flag moment. Her choice to surrender to God's will, and not her own, led her to new horizons and this white flag became a white wedding dress.
I enjoyed reading how Joni and her husband began Daystar, their Christian television ministry. God's hand was evident and their growth and success has been miraculous. I was encouraged by Joni's statement, "You may feel like you're spinning your wheels, but let me assure you that God will use every one of your life experiences in preparation for what he has for you."
Woven throughout the book are stories of fellow Christians who overcame serious obstacles. These stories bridged the gap between Joni's Christian upbringing and those who didn't grow up in a Christian environment. Through their struggles to overcome addictions, sexual promiscuity, and criminal activity, their ultimate surrender to Jesus Christ provides hope for everyone, no matter their past or upbringing.
While reading this book I realized I needed to redefine my idea of surrender. Waving the white flag is an internationally recognized protective sign. Persons carrying a white flag are not to be fired upon by the enemy. In effect, their surrender saves their life.
Coming to Christ and surrendering all to Him works the same way. Our relationship with Him gives us His protection and saves our life eternally. Sounds like a win to me.
I suppose many of us want to live our lives with peace, power and purpose, but we were not quite sure how to find these qualities, until now. In "Surrender All", Joni Lamb shows readers that no matter what their background, they can achieve all of this if they will truly follow the path to surrender.
Joni Lamb speaks not only "to" the heart, but speaks "from" the heart as well. Her kindness and sincerity are revealed throughout her book, and you feel yourself being drawn into the love she extends to others. She shows us that we need to be patient while we are waiting for God to show us the way that He has for us, and that He will reveal His plan to us in His time, not in our time. We need to trust and wait. She explains how God puts dreams and desires in our hearts, so we will be ready to achieve those goals when the time is right.
The author gives us what she calls the ABCs of writing our own prayer of surrender. Although she encourages readers to write this prayer in their own words, she gives some excellent suggestions. Joni also reminds us that we need to surrender again and again, because life is full of challenges and is never smooth.
Joni assures us that wherever we are, no matter our past, that God will hear us if we reach out to Him. She tells us that if we want to get away from God, we are the ones who have to let go because God never will. Throughout the book Joni uses amazing real life examples of people's experiences, some of whom have had really traumatic backgrounds, yet found their lives transformed once they truly made the commitment to surrender to God.
This is a powerful book, yet it is written in a soft, gentle style, the style of Joni Lamb. At the end of the book, she offers a prayer for us as she gently leads us down the path of surrender. I highly recommend this book as one that can transform your life.
