Overview

After a devastating battle at headquarters in New York, the ghostkeeping world is in shambles. When Emma and Bennett return home they are determined to defeat the wraithmaster Neos forever. But it’s not going to be easy. Bennett’s parents kick him out when they realize he is still using drugs to enhance his powers. Emma is convinced her aunt has come back from the dead to warn her of a new threat. And worst of all, Neos is using wraiths to possess the students at Thatcher Academy. If the ghosts manage to take over the entire school, even Emma won’t be strong enough to stop them. But if either she or Bennett sacrifice their powers, they might be able to save the ghostkeeping world once and for all—and break the “ghostkeepers lose their powers when they fall in love” curse. The question is: who will be the one to surrender all power?

Fast paced and romantic, this conclusion to the Haunting Emma trilogy will thrill readers as it brings the ghostly mystery to a close.

Editorial Reviews

Children's Literature - Heather Robertson Mason
Emma has finally accepted her role as the descendant of one of the most powerful ghostkeepers of all time. She has managed to make friends with both humans and spirits, and has forged a strong relationship with her boyfriend Bennett. Still, things are wrong and she knows it. Bennett is addicted to a drug that boosts his powers of controlling ghosts (a power he has begun to lose since dating her), her parents are still missing, and her friends can't protect her from Neos, the dark force looking to take over Emma and use her to control the world. Now that Neos has managed to infiltrate her school and control her classmates, Emma wonders if her power is strong enough to defeat such a frightening enemy. This is the third novel in the "Haunting Emma" series, and readers of the first two will enjoy the final chapter. Although the storyline includes supernatural elements, the characters themselves are normal, everyday teens. The book has romance, but it doesn't overpower the essential story, and Emma is a much stronger female lead than seen in other books of this type. The action is exciting and believable, even when it involves ghosts and demons. However, readers should start with the first book in the series since many relationships and important details are not fully explained. Certainly a great conclusion to an excellent example of teen paranormal fiction; one that will appeal to readers familiar and unfamiliar with this genre. Reviewer: Heather Robertson Mason

    I can't believe it's over

I have loved this series from the beginning. I fell in love with all the main GOOD characters, hated the bad, laughed, cried, and cursed Lee a few times along the way. A journey into a world that started on a fluke purchase turned into one of my favorite series of all.

Deception, Betrayal, Surrender. One word that has so much meaning and they sum up the books perfectly. Lee creates dynamic and engaging characters and weaves a personality and story for them you hate to see end, but are glad to see finished. A movie of this series would ruin it. It paints a picture for every reader to the point that we don't need to see it brought to life, to us, it is real.

She could easily pick up and continue the characters by going with the two supporting leads and telling us their story. But the story of Emma and Bennett is over. Their staring roles are finished, while the stories of their friends has just begun. Maybe if we are lucky Lee will continue this world she brought us into with a series about the friends. If she chooses to do so, expect me to be first in line to get the books.

She captured me to the extent that I will no longer question a purchase when her name is attached. There is only one other Author who has that power over my money, and that is Nora Roberts.

If you like Ghosts,Creepy locations and Action- Check this book out!!

The third book in the series and in my opinion is not as good as the first two but still better than most of the books out there. You will need to read book one(Deception) and two(Betrayal) to be up to par on the store because Lee Nichols doesn't back track alot on past history (thank goodness) like a lot of authors do for page fillers. I have laughed and cried as I have read this book. I waited a whole year for this book to come out and I wasn't let down. I think Lee nichols drags her heels in the writing of this book in spots, but in a way I think she just doesn't want to end this series either. If you love Ghosts, spooky houses, creepy locations and typical teenage stuff happening. This is the book for you. Oh did I tell you that the lead character Emma is a kick butt fighter? Human as well as Ghost! Buy all three books I don't think you will be let down by the ghostkeepers that live in the creepy muesum.

I think this will be short and sweet. It's been way to long since I've read it (the one downfall of a blog hiatus). I'll give it my best shot though!

Bennett was the most interesting character for me. I could not figure out the purpose behind his drug use even if it enhanced his powers. It just didn't seem to fit the character I knew. However, when we finally learn what his true intentions were and how the powerful drug use aided in that, I understood the bigger picture. Nothing he did was for himself, but entirely for Emma and to help her defeat Neos.

Emma was really no nonsense this time around. She was actually quite discouraged anytime the group was idle. She wanted the war with Neos to be over with. I was impressed with how well she kept her head on her shoulders. She may have wanted Neos dead and wanted to be the one to do, but she never acted irrationally.

I was afraid with as much of the book that passed by before our final battle took place, that the end would be short. That really irritates me when the ending is rushed. But, I really felt that the author did the ending justice. I was satisfied with the chain events and how the series came to a close!
