Meet the Author

Rhiannon is a booksmith from the North, telling her fantastical tales to unsuspecting folk on mountains, in valleys and mostly in cities around the world. She holds a PhD in Metaphysical Science and Parapsychology, which is to say she happens to know a lot about what goes bump in the night. When she's not writing she's singing karaoke, burning dinner, and hiding her superhero identity. She'd like to own a unicorn one day, as long as it doesn't eat her. You'll find her sipping iced cappuccino despite her allergy to coffee at yafantasyauthor.com

Surrender is the first book in The Ferryman and The Flame series.   I was turned onto this series when I was given the opportunity to read Mercy, which is the fourth book in this series.  Usually I read books in order but Mercy was written in such a way that it could be read independently of the series.  After reading Mercy, my curiosity was totally peaked and I needed to read more about the characters and this series. This book is very different from other paranormal books I have read.  There are new types of paranormal characters introduced, some of which I don’t know how to explain without giving the book away, which is refreshing.  The setting is in beautiful lands created by the author’s vivid imagination.  All the characters seem to have a special calling.  The characters themselves don’t even know what their powers are until a certain time when they are given a parable that is suppose to tell them their destiny.  The parable keeps the characters and the readers guessing what it means and as the story went on, I found myself thinking of the parable and trying to figure out what it meant. This book kept me on the edge of my seat because we knew something was going to happen but we just didn’t know when.  When the inevitable happened, I found myself re-reading the ending section because I did NOT see that coming.  Next thing you know, the book is done. WHAT?  I want more!  This definitely ended on a cliffhanger but that is OK because Justice is the next book in the series and it is available now!   ~KD

This was the first audio book I have read and at first I was a little worried. Would I be able to focus on listening instead of reading? Would I be able to maintain the same mental images while listening? Yes and Yes! I do a lot of driving up and down the coast of Florida and I hate popular music so I found myself dying to listen while trekking North and South along the dreaded I-75. The narrator was amazing and her voice easy to listen to. The pace of the reading was perfect and I didn't have to worry about mentally pronouncing the names wrong. SCORE! As for the novel, it was wonderful! Surrender has been on my TBR list for over a year and finally getting to read... er listen to it was fabulous. The characters were so beautifully described and the story line moved seamlessly integrating the necessary history into the gripping story. I instantly fell in love with Kaliel. Her curiosity and adventurous personalty made her easy to accept as a character and her internal struggles make you want to reach out and hug her. All of the characters were well developed with rich histories and personal quirks. Not a single detail was overlooked, which just goes to show what an amazing young author Rhiannon is.

I absolutely loved this book and could not put it down. I was hooked from the very first word and when I was finished I needed more and was not satisfied until I had the second book. It moved along at a great pace, had fantastic characters and an intersting story. Rhiannon has created a fantastic world that lets you escape reality and needing more.

Kaliel and Krishani are elvins, part of Avristar. They are trained to marry the land and help in the World of Men. But a chance meeting has Kaliel and Krishani pining for each other, something that they can't do. If that was not hard enough, both have a hard time with the simple tasks that they are supposed to perform and at a select age they have to go visit the Great Oak and learn their parable for life. Kaliel is torn with the horrible parable and her longing for Krishani. At the same time Krishani is plagued with nightmares of death and has a lot of power that he cannot control. Both are sent to the lord and lady of the land for further instruction. While there, they meet up and start spending more time together. But when war strikes and hits to close to home, both have to decide what they will do to protect the other. I really liked this story. I started with Skeleton and Dust so I had some background on the story. I do admit that it started out slow so it was a little difficult to get into the story right away. I have to say that under normal circumstances insta-love is one thing that really bothers me. But when you find out the whole story you understand why. Over all I think this is a great story that fantasy lovers don't want to miss. But I want to warn you, read Skeleton and Dust before you read Surrender. You won't be so lost.

This was so good, really detailed. Sort of a broad fantasy world along the lines of Lord of the Rings, but not copy cat at all. Im impressed! Star crossed lovers, but its kept pretty PG13, very innocent even in the steamier parts. I will be reading the next installment for sure.
