Overview

What do you do when the law wants you behind bars and the New York crime families want you buried?

That was the life-and-death dilemma confronting Andrew DiDonato, who began his criminal career at age 14 under the watchful eyes of the local Mob.

By the time he was 17, the infamous Gambino family made DiDonato and associate of the Nicolas Corozzo crew. For the next 14 years, he was a loyal street soldier, immersed in dangerous and profitable criminal activities: burglary, forgery, extortion, loan sharking, car theft, bank robbery, counterfeiting, drug dealing, credit-card and insurance fraud, witness tampering, weapons possession, and attempted murder.

He was also involved in the underworld gambling operations, which took in millions dealing dice and cards, booking sports and horses, and running numbers. Between these pages you'll find the most in-depth look at Mob gambling ever published.

At age 31, DiDonato ran afoul of both the law and his friends, turning him into a hunted man on two fronts. After 17 months on the run, the law caught him first.

Surviving the Mob is a cautionary tale of the harsh reality of a criminal, inmate, fugitive, and witness who-so far-has lived to tell the tale.

    great story- highly recommended-

Surviving the Mob is a straight foward come at you like a frieght train story of the mobster who unlike many before him puts to paper the truth about the everyday workingings of being apart of a mob family ,and most refreshing is that he doesnt try to glorify the life in any way instead i found myself learning the true politics of mob life and how words such as honor loyalty and respect are almost non exsistent in the real world of organized crime and that is a far cry from what we have been spoon fed from film and television accounts ! As i was reading the story i felt as though i was right along him committing his crimes and then fighting for his life ,this story is an inspiration to everyone that no matter your past you can overcome and change for the better, the surviving the mob story is living proof to that.

    Very Interesting Read

Overall I thought this was a good read. Kept your interst though there are acouple of rambling spots but overall I could not wait to get back to it to see how things turned out. To me, this is the way a novel should be.

Andrew DiDonato tells it like it is.

Good book, easy to read. Andrew DiDonato tells it like it is in organized crime. This is not sugar coated to glamorize the mob. He tells you his story without making heros out of the people he grew up with. They are seen as people with flaws such as greed, envy and murderous tedencies. --Marcus

    It was alrighttt

No major twists, no captivating literature, nothing compelled me to read this story day in and day out like "The Ice Man" did. It was an average book.
