Overview

I knew falling in love with him was bad for us both, but I did it anyway.

For a brief moment, we had it all. Even though he was leaving to join the Marines and I had four years of college ahead of me, he was everything I ever wanted, but didn't think I deserved.

But real life has a way of dashing dreams-and that happy future we envisioned together? It disappeared at the hands of a monster.

Ten years have passed, and I'm not the same naïve girl who believed in happily-ever-afters. When my mother passes away and I find myself caring for my two teenage brothers, the last thing on my mind should be reconnecting with the hottie-turned-hero who I loved at seventeen.

If I want a second chance at his heart, I'll have to trust him with the secrets that tore us apart.

Pre-ordered this book. Why is it covered in edits/track changes/underlined pages of text and the editors comments. Very frustrating to try and read. Wish I could figure out how to get an updated copy. :-(

Jack and Sofie's story is one that is unforgettable! A story of love, heartbreak, fighting, surviving, and rebuilding! I absolutely loved it!!! 10 years ago, best friends Jack and Sofie fell in love. Even though he was going into the Marines and she was headed off to college, they were unable to deny their feelings. However, someone else destroyed it all in the blink of an eye. Sofie has pretty much stayed away from her hometown in the past 10 years but when her mother passes away, she is the only one left who can care for her 2 younger brothers. Seeing Jack around all the time, it's hard to not think of what could of been. When old threats resurface, she turns to Jack with the secrets that tore them apart. Jack has loved Sofie his whole life and has always wondered what happened. When she re-enters his life and confides in him the secrets of their past, he is determined to protect her family and her. Will they be able to have their second chance or will the threats of the past be too detrimental?

4.5 Second Chance Stars! This book is a heartbreakingly beautiful tale of second chances at life and love. This story opens with Sophie breaking into her childhood home to retrieve some papers only to be confronted by Jack. So begins the mystery and intrigue involving these past lovers. I enjoyed how it was told in alternating past and present sequence allowing the reader to truly experience every event and emotion Jack and Sophie felt. Ms Blanchard skillfully addresses a very tragic and painful topic with honesty and compassion. This story is raw, bold, and emotional but also rejuvenating and hopeful. Jack and Sophie were madly in love and planning for their future. When tragedy strikes they are ripped apart. It takes another tragedy to bring them back together, but is it too late? Will they be able to mend ten years of pain and betrayal? Jack and Sophie are two strong characters who felt honest and authentic. I enjoyed their banter and their chemistry was explosive. This is a fast paced suspenseful journey that is exhilarating and emotional and I enjoyed every minute of it.

Two young people in love and planning for the future, then a tragedy happens that pulls them apart. I loved that not only was this story told in dual POV but in past and present also. You will slowly learn that happened to tear Jack and Sophie apart. Will they get a second chance at love? This is a story of the will to survive and finding solace with family when you need to. Sophie ran from her life to protect her family and Jack but what will happen when she returns to take care of her brothers in the time of need. When her demons return will her family be hurt? The characters were well written and you felt their feelings from love to pain. Ms. Blanchard did a great job of slowly revealing the past and what happens to Sophie. She also kept you on the edge of your seat waiting for the shoe to drop. I was always waiting for that demon to show up. Great intense and emotional read

Nicole Blanchard skillfully weaves the past and present together in a tale of young love gone tragically awry in Survivor. Sofie and Jack's journey is an emotional tale that intrigues you in the beginning and grips your heart thereafter as the story unfolds. Quite simply, this story was very hard to put down as I found myself immersed in the characters and their story as told by an incredibly talented author.

I fell in love with these characters from the very beginning and I longed to know how things were going to turn out for them. I was rooting for them through it all, but you just never know how things will end up going in a relationship, especially ones with pasts involved. I love that Nicole Blanchard took on the tough topic of sexual assault. This is not an easy topic for anyone but she did an amazing job with how she incorporated it into this story. There are warnings about triggers with this one so if you have had an experience with any of them you might want to shy away, although I think Nicole did this topic in a very tasteful way! Sofie is a young lady that fell in love early with Jack. They were both busy with their lives and waiting until the right time to take the next step in their relationship. Jack had just enlisted in the Marines and has to be away from Sofie for awhile but she was going to focus on her college that she would be attending for the next 4 years. When an unexpected event takes place, Sofie sort of disappears and runs from those that she knows and loves. My heart breaks for her because she went through all of the hard times on her own and ran from the people that she really needed at that hard time in her life. Fast forward 10 years, Jack and Sofie have not been together and now Sofie is having to move back home to take care of her younger brothers because her parents are both gone now. Sofie has no idea how she is going to be the guardian that these boys need. She has never been responsible for anyone. When Sofie and the boys end up with a stomach bug one day, Jack comes to the rescue even after Sofie breaks things off with him. Jack comes over and helps Sofie with the boys and helps her to get to feeling better as well. Sofie is surprised that he even wants to be around her after the way that she ended things with him. Little does Jack know thought that Sofie is hiding something from him. I love how Jack was so determined to help Sofie through raising the boys and the transition in to being their guardian. Even though Sofie really didn't want him there to help her, Jack did not care and was determined to show her that he was not going anywhere. When things begin to heat up for the two of them again, will they be able to resist each other and focus on their task at hand or will they rekindle their love and move on from there? You have to read this sweet story to find out. The characters are so well developed and Sofie continues to grow in this story. It was nice to see Jack encourage her to face her fears as well. A great read that will leave you longing for more of Sofie and Jack! I can't wait to see what is next from Nicole Blanchard! I was given a copy of this book in exchange for my honest opinion! Thank you!

This is the second book in the First to Fight series by Nicole Blanchard and it is just as good as the first one. I'm definitely looking forward to reading more in this series. Sophie and Jack were young when they fell in love, but all they could see was the rest of their lives together, not the struggles that they might have in a long distance romance. Things tragically change one night and Sophie didn't know what to do so she ran. She ran as far as she could get and basically cut everyone out of her life that had to do with her home town, the town that she would never feel safe in again. Leaving her family and Jack was soul crushing, but she felt that it was the only way that she could ever survive. Jack wasn't surprised when Sophie came back after hearing of her mother's passing, but he was however surprised that she was sneaking back and didn't seem to want to take over the care of her brothers. What would keep her away from her town, family and him for so long? What secrets had she been keeping all of these years? They couldn't deny their attraction for one another or the fact that they still loved each other, but what ever happened that night so long ago needed to come out and be resolved or they couldn't go forward in their relationship. I was given an ARC for an honest review. All conclusions are mine and mine alone.

When Sofie left town 10 years ago, she left her family and Jack with no explanation. She was running, hiding from something. But now she is faced with family responsibilities she cannot ignore. Will she come back and face her family and Jack? Will she be able to keep her secret? When her past collides with her present will Jack forgive her and care enough to save her from her demons? Or can too much time erase those deep seeded feelings? Jack is the ultimate book boyfriend. He is tough and sexy with a body only an ex-marine who now owns a gym can have. But under his tough exterior lies a tender man who’s sense of loyalty runs deep. He will do anything for those he cares about. I mean, who wouldn’t want a man like that in their life? Sofie has learned to take care of herself. She is smart and savvy, and works hart to make sure her vulnerable side stays well hidden. She has been hurt in the past and has decided that no one will hurt her that way again. She has built up walls to protect herself. This book has all the emotions. I laughed, cried, was on the edge of my seat, felt frustrated and sighed more than a few times over Jack. The twists in this book were amazing. There were definitely things I did not see coming. This is the second book in the First to Fight series, and each book just keeps getting better. Nicole Blanchard has created in this series men who are tough but tender, have a sense of loyalty and are not afraid to show when they care about someone. The women are tough as well. They can take care of themselves, but are so much better when they give their hearts to the men who love them. I absolutely love this series and cannot wait for Savior, book 3 to come out to hear Logan’s story. Another 5-star story from Nicole Blanchard.

Survivor is a tremendously remarkable story of the power and the resiliency of the human spirit. Many things in this life can try to break us, and while they may succeed in fracturing a part of our soul, only we can allow ourselves to truly crumble under the overwhelming weight. What we find more often than not is a reason to rebuild the shattered parts of our heart. Whether that comes in the form of family, friends, or the grace of a stranger is inconsequential when they have the power to save a life. Can you think of anything more wonderful and empowering then to know that you can breathe life and hope into another human being just by merely offering them some love and grace?! If that doesn’t give you a reason to keep putting one foot in front of the other, then I don’t know what will. Jack was certain of one thing above all else – he loved Sophie. His heart was drawn to her like nothing and no one else in his life. She embodied the beauty, hope, and joy of his life, and he would do whatever he could to keep her by his side. In his heart he knew she loved him just as much as he loved her until she didn’t. One day changed the course of his life, and he was never able to find out why. His heart walked away from him, and he was left hurt and broken. When she returns to take care of her brothers, Jack has a decision to make. Will he fight for what he lost and wants most, or will he walk away this time never to return? Jack and Sophie ripped my heart apart and then carefully and beautifully put it back together. The intense emotions and the wondrous feelings that flow throughout this story brought me to my knees. The power of these characters to touch my very soul was unprecedented, and I found myself completely captivated by them. Reading this story in one sitting was mandatory because I just couldn’t pull myself away from the suspense, the danger, and the passion that threatened to rip me in half. Jack and Sophie were born to complete the other. Their connection was all consuming, unapologetically passionate, and beautifully uplifting. Jack was a wonderful insightful man who understood the importance of listening, loving, and accepting those things that he couldn’t change while moving mountains to show his devotion, passion, and determination in order to win back the heart of the only woman who would ever be his. Nicole Blanchard continues to write with an exquisitely masterful talent all the while upping her game with each incredible story that she brings to life. Her heart will not let her give us anything less the all that she is which is easily seen in each of her beautiful characters. These stories never fail to leave me completely breathless with wonder and full of boundless appreciation for being blessed by them. I am left better for having experienced a small glimpse of the beauty and wonder that is Nicole Blanchard.
