Meet the Author

Jeff Probst is the multi-Emmy award winning host and executive producer of the popular series Survivor.

In 2009, Probst partnered with Mark Burnett as creator and executive producer for "Live for the Moment," for CBS, which featured a person with a daunting diagnosis who wants to live the best life possible and fulfill their dreams. In 2007, Probst founded The Serpentine Project, a non-profit organization designed to help young adults transition out of the foster care system.  In 2011, they joined forces with the larger non-profit organization Alliance for Children’s Rights, which has provided 100,000 kids in L.A. with free legal assistance and advocacy.  Each season, Survivor memorabilia is auctioned off and, to date, the auctions have raised hundreds of thousands of dollars for the organization.

A native of Wichita, Kan., Probst is married and lives in Los Angeles with his wife and 2 children when not traveling the world.  He can be followed on twitter @jeffprobst and online at www.jeffprobst.com

Chris Tebbetts is the New York Times bestselling co-author of James Patterson's Middle School series. Originally from Yellow Spring, Ohio, Tebbetts is a graduate of Northwester University. He lives and writes in Vermont.

    The Lost Island- chapter one

A hooded figure stood, looking into the unbroken surface of a small pond. There was silence for a brief moment, then the figure spoke, addressing a small creature that sat on the ground to her left. "The star spirits have spoken, Vaeris. At last they have revealed the location of the Forgotten Isles." The figure turned to face the creature, Vaeris, lifting the hood to reveal the face of a young girl, her blonde hair blowing in the wind. She reached out a hand and touched her companion's head, gently stroking its soft black fur. "Perhaps we will live long enough to get to see it..." The girl got up and once again studied the surface of the pond. Although there was no wind, the water rippled, replacing her reflection with an image of an older girl. A raspy voice, barely louder than a whisper, echoed across the pond,"Thhhhissss iiissss tttthhhe one the sssspirrritsss haaave chosssennn..........." The a fog drifted across the pond, erasing the image. The girl knelt, desperately looking into the water, trying to see more. "Thhere must be more! Why must you be so mysterious?"

Hush sighed, got up, and padded out. She decided she was not going to deal with it anymore.
She padded back to camp, her tail tucked between her legs. Her white and black pelt gglittered coldly, and it started to snow lightly.
