Children's Literature
The amazing and inspirational Susan B. Anthony is highlighted in this biography for young students. Children will learn basic facts about Anthony's early life and how she bravely spoke out for what she believed in. Her fight for justice is well-documented throughout twelve short but informative chapters, including photographs and pictures that bring alive her life and times. Among the issues covered are Anthony's fight against slavery, better pay for women, equal rights for freed slaves, temperance and most notably, her fight for women's suffrage. The double-spaced text and clear chapter titles make the book accessible and interesting to read. Photos and pictures are described with captions and there is at least one picture per page that will help hold the interest of the reader. At the end of the book are a timeline of important dates, a glossary, a fact page, a page of further resources and an index. This interesting and worthwhile biography is part of the "Compass Point Early Biographies" series. 2001, Compass Point Books, $19.93. Ages 8 to 12. Reviewer: Melissa A. Caudill
