Meet the Author

Suzy Gershman is a journalist, author, and global-shopping goddess who has worked in the fashion and fiber industries for more than 25 years. Her essays on retailing have been used by the Harvard School of Business; her reportage on travel and retail has appeared in Travel + Leisure, Travel Holiday, Travel Weekly, and most of the major women’s magazines. She is translated into French for Condé Nast’s Air France Madame magazine. The Born to Shop series, now over 23 years old, is translated into eight languages. Gershman is also the author of C’est La Vie (Viking and Penguin Paperback), the story of her first year as a widow living in Paris. She recently sold her flat in Paris and now divides her time between San Antonio, Texas (her childhood home); a small house in Provence; and the airport. Suzy is currently working on a guide to the world’s best shopping and also gives shopping tours; contact her at suzy@suzygershman.com for details.

Sarah Lahey retired from her career in home style to raise a family and recently rejoined the workforce as news director for the Born to Shop series. Sarah shows and sells English smalls at Northern California antiques fairs. She lives with her husband and dog, Bentley, outside of San Francisco and wears the same size as Suzy (so they can share clothes).

A Breezy Guide to Paris Shopping

I've been reading most of Ms. Gershman's 'Born to Shop' books since she began the series. Since Paris is one of my favorite cities, I'm at the BN doorstep when the latest 'Born to Shop Paris' is released. I think the insights are candid biases are noted, but diplomatically. I haven't agreed with every opinion, but I've had the fun of checking out the resources offered. The writing style is a delight - the book layout is useful. It even gets me into parts of Paris I wouldn't go without some idea. The pace of the commercial world today makes it tough to be absolutely current in every detail, but most publishing today is like that. I'd love to spend a week with the 'Born to Shop' crew in Paris just to explore with them!

    Do Not Use This!!!!!!!!!!!!

I have been shopping in Paris serverly times and have not found this book to give any help. Some of the locations that she gives are wrong. The impression that the author has about some of the shops are simply not true. I think it is a poorly maintained guide for shopping in Paris and therefore would be of little help to serious shoppers in need of a dependable resource.
