Deep Into the Game and Failsafe are the first two books in the hi-tech dystopian thriller GAMELAND. Structured on television's The Walking Dead and Law and Order, the nearly 400,000-word series consists of eight individual episodes, first published monthly between May and December 2012. I got this first episode free and it did what free books are supposed to do -- got me hooked on both the story and the author. I will be buying the entire series now and also checking out other books the author has written.

I started this book after finishing the awesome prequel, "Golgotha" and have to say, this book was not what I expected. As awesomely and beautifully horrific as the prequel was, this novel was action packed and fast. While they share a same dire feeling, the tone of both couldn't be more different but "Golgotha", I think, is essential reading before launching into this novel. I have got to give credit to Saul Tanpepper for the world he creates in this novel.

This novel is not recommended for readers under sixteen. It scared the bejesus out of me, and for a bit I wondered if that should be upped to twenty five. On the other hand, anyone who has driven with teens knows they fear nothing, so perhaps it shouldn't be recommended for people over 40.

Okay, i'm hooked! I'm usually not the one to read too much out of my comfort zone, but i'm glad I did! Zombies and geeksquad gamers (as I call them), who would've thought! The darkness of it will have you on the edge of your seat, or in my case; sitting up in bed with my eyes glued to my kindle screen. Whenever I read a good book, I sit and wonder how the heck do the authors come up with such great storylines?
eFiction magazine calls Saul an author armed with "a PhD and a whacked out sense of humor."
Saul spent his formative years in a leaky century-old house overlooking the Erie Canal in Upstate New York. His bedroom was a refurbished attic, which he shared with all manner of creatures, not all, he is convinced, flesh and blood.
After bouncing around the US and Europe for several years, he settled down to pursue a career in the sciences, opting to study the mysteries of human molecular genetics. But even positions as an experimental biologist, teacher, manager and biotech entrepreneur couldn't keep him from his true passion as a storyteller.
He now writes speculative fiction full time from his home in the San Francisco Bay Area. Although his house is now attic-less and waterproof, he continues to be haunted by a variety of creatures, including a wife, kids, four dogs, three cats, six chickens, a wayward rooster, and one very grumpy possum. They are all flesh and blood.
Except, maybe, for the possum, which he's convinced is the reincarnated spirit of Jack Torrance.
