Overview

From New York Times and USA Today bestselling author Jana DeLeon, the third book in the Miss Fortune Mystery series.

When only a crack shot will do...

In the two weeks CIA assassin Fortune Redding has been hiding in Sinful, Louisiana, she's been harassed, poisoned, and shot at...and that was the easy part. But now, she's about to face her biggest challenge since setting foot in the tiny bayou town.

When mayoral candidate Ted Williams is murdered, everyone is surprised. Ted was a blowhole and a Yankee, but those usually weren't good reasons to kill someone. When Sinful Ladies Society leader Ida Belle becomes the lead suspect in the crime, Fortune knows she's got to solve a murder and save one of the only friends she's ever had.

But as the investigation begins, more and more secrets surface, and Fortune realizes that sometimes nothing is as it seems.

Meet the Author

New York Times and USA Today bestselling author Jana DeLeon was raised in southwest Louisiana among the bayous and gators. Her hometown is Carlyss, but you probably won't find it on a map. Her family owned a camp located on a bayou just off the Gulf of Mexico that you could only get there by boat. The most important feature was the rope hammock hanging in the shade on a huge deck that stretched out over the water where Jana spent many hours reading books.

Jana and her brother spent thousands of hours combing the bayous in a flat-bottom aluminum boat, studying the natural habitat of many birds, nutria and alligators. She would like you to know that no animals were injured during these "studies," but they kept makers of peroxide in business.

Jana has never stumbled across a mystery or a ghost like her heroines, but she's still hopeful.

She now resides in Dallas, Texas, with the most spoiled Sheltie in the world.

My happy place is hanging out with Fortune, Gerti and Ida Belle

My happy place is hanging out with Fortune, Gerti and Ida Belle in Sinful, Louisiana. Those three attract trouble, murder and mayhem like peanut butter attracts raccoons, and I can't get enough. Fortune is a hoot, as she tries to maintain her cover as a beauty-contest-winning librarian, when in reality she's a wanted CIA assassin in hiding. Fortune was raised by a legendary CIA agent father who may have been a sociopath as well, and she has no clue how to be "normal". Her whole life has been about training and missions. Trying to adjust to friendships, her attraction to the hunky local sheriff, and living a normal civilian life is almost too much for her. But luckily she's hiding out in Sinful, so the definition of a "normal" life is pretty flexible, and usually involves firearms.
Ida Belle and Gerti are perfect friends and companions for Fortune. As former Vietnam-era government operatives, both ladies "get" her and this fabulous trio treat every event and social opportunity like a potentially deadly mission.
This third installment of the series finds Ida Belle framed for the murder of a mayoral candidate. It's up to Gerti and Fortune to clear Ida Belle's name by discovering the real murderer, all while avoiding Carter. In the process of running their own investigation, Fortune gets her foot trapped in the sheriff's toilet, shoots out her own windows, Gerti has more tree mishaps, Marie joins the gang as a provisional member (she's too nervous to make a full-fledged agent) and Fortune acknowledges her fledgling emotions. Par for the course for this group.

If you need an escape, a distraction, a laugh (or ten), then read this series!

The third book in the Fortune series is the best yet! Sometimes

The third book in the Fortune series is the best yet! Sometimes authors not only use the same characters, but the plot in each book of the series is much like the last. Not so with this series. Not only does the author write a good mystery that keeps you trying to figure out who did the deed, but keeps you in stitches at the same time. The main characters grow and develop with each book in the series. I'd love to hang out on Fortune's back porch with her and the two senior sleuths. Bet you can't read just one of the books in this series. If you read one, you'll want to read the others.

    Highly Recommended

Loved this book. I have read all of Jana's books and love them all. This one is as good as the rest. She has a great way of telling a story. Sounds like real people and you can really enjoy the predicaments that they get themselves into.

    Loved it

This third book in the series was even better than the first two and they were great !! The comical situations Fortune, Ida Belle and Gertie happen to get into is so entertaining. I can't wait to read the next series story. Poor Carter gets so frustated with these women. Little does he know Fortune is a CIA assassin, and Ida Belle and Gertie were ex-military soldiers during the Vietnam War.

There are few authors who can continuously make me laugh book after book, series after series. But Jana DeLeon is one of those few! I have read all of her mysteries both stand alones and series and I can honestly say that I love every one of them. I discovered Jana's Mudbug series first and became a BIG fan but so far the Miss Fortune series is my absolute favorite books of hers. They are well written, witty, hilarious and full of characters you wish you could meet in real life. If you haven't tried these books yet, do yourself a favor and pick them up! You will be hooked just like me once you have tried them.

    A must read!

I am a true fan of Jana's books and that being said I must say that this one surprised me. As I started to read it was her same style and the characters were brought into the story and kept me interested and waiting for the next page but now I am waiting for the next book.

I am amazed at how Jana keeps you involved in the story as if you know all the people in this little town and just keeps you wanting more.

Well, I want more, so hurry with the next book please I can hardly wait to see what kind of trouble they all get into this time.

It is adventure, mystery, laughter, fear and a little love tossed in to keep you reading.

    ENJOY!

2.5 Stars. The first 2 books were decent. This read has become tiresome & with no character development. Do not plan to read any more of the Ms. Fortune series.

    Amazing!

Jana does not disappoint in this latest book in her Miss Fortune Series. She keeps you on edge while laughing at the crazy antics of Ida Belle, Gertie, and Fortune. Not to mention Sheriff Hottie, Cater, makes many more appearances. Can't wait to read more of Fortune, her crazy friends, and Carter!

    Fun

I've read the series up to here. My only comment is "Why is this not a TV series?". It's funny, with a different take on small towns. Being from a small town in Louisiana (with a bayou) it's even more enjoyable.
