I've been knitting for over 50 years and have a good collection of knitting magazines and books, including some books about design. Every piece in my library is helpful (or it wouldn't be there). I've done some of my own designs over the years, often borrowing parts of different sweaters from my magazines or using existing sweaters as templates. This book is a standout. Maggie Righetti explains everything there is to know about sweaters, and makes designing your own a logical next step. I recommend this book to beginners because you will avoid many mistakes. You might not want to think about designing right now, but you will gain an understanding of how each part of design and construction interacts and helps you produce something beautiful and wearable. And you will gain the confidence to alter patterns to suit you and progress to designing.
