Overview

Sure, Keith Emerson may have cured the common fart at age nine. But that was so last year. Now, the whole world wants to know, “What have you done lately!?”

Thanks to his invention of Sweet Farts, the tablets that cancel even the most ripe and pungent fart smells, Keith has become the center of all kinds of attention he doesn’t want. His kid sister has turned into a farting maniac, and his parents blame him. His so-called best friends torture him at school with nicknames like “S.B.D.” (for Silent But Deadly) and try to humiliate him every chance they get. The principal wants to know what Keith’s next brilliant invention will be. His mentor, Mr. Gonzalez, is threatening to pull the plug on his laboratory. And, with the annual science fair just weeks away, it looks like the boy wonder is about to choke big time.

No pressure, Keith.

With a little help from some unexpected sources, Keith will learn a valuable life lesson in this hilarious follow-up to Raymond Bean’s surprise hit, Sweet Farts.

Editorial Reviews

School Library Journal
Gr 4–6—In Sweet Farts (BookSurge, 2008), Keith invented a tablet that turned the stench of even the strongest flatulence into something tolerable, or even pleasant. Now, he has become a 10-year-old millionaire. He has full access to a laboratory and a scientific support staff, and his only problem is coming up with something new and marvelous to show off at his school's science fair. Unfortunately, he can't think of anything dazzling, and as the weeks pass he feels more and more pressured to meet everyone's expectations. His friends, glorying in gaseous humor, keep coming up with new ways to embarrass him. His four-year-old sister, who is unhappy with all the attention her brother is receiving, causes Keith further shame by throwing tantrums and refusing to eat anything but junk food. Bean has a good sense of the snarky, stinky humor many middle-graders love, and this book will be enjoyed by fans of the first volume.—Walter Minkel, Austin Public Library, TX
Kirkus Reviews

Last year at Harborside Elementary, Keith Emerson did something amazing at the science fair: He invented Sweet Farts, candy that makes toots smell sweet. Now he's rich and has a big lab, but what will he do for an encore? Mr Gonzalez, the rich scientist who helped him last year, is going away, but he's scheduled a talk-show appearance for Keith to promote whatever he invents this year. Keith's buddies Anthony and Scott are no help, and Emma, Keith's four-year-old sister, eschews eating but loves farting. Can Keith come up with something better than Sweet Farts or will he crap out? Even in a world where kids can play the lottery, where science means just coming up with an idea, where negligent parents let their four-year-olds eat only candy and chips...this is an unrealistic mess. Peppered with clichés, peopled with characteristics rather than characters and burdened by dialogue so wooden you could knock it for luck, Bean's second fart-centric tale is one joke short of a one-joke title. For good gassy humor turn to the Grosse Adventures manga series or the late-'90s series Barf-o-Rama, by Pat Pollari. (Fiction. 8-12)

This book made me laugh all the time! Sweet farts is about a boy that is 10 years old. His name is Keith. He invented something that makes farts smell like pickels or mint. But now that Mr.Gonzalez is reterning Keith has to think up another amazing inventsion for the science fair, and on top of that he is going on a live tv show! Will Keith make another awsome idea or will he be stuck being a loser on tv. Find out when you read sweet farts!
