Overview

Jane Roberts was the average girl next door until she and her best friend, Scarlett Harp, landed their own hit reality show, L.A. Candy. But life on camera is getting complicated. . . .

When racy photos of Jane are leaked to the press, she becomes the center of a tabloid scandal. She turns to costar Madison Parker for help, but does Madison really have Jane's back?

Scarlett's got a scandal of her own. She's fallen for a guy who's strictly off-limits—which means Scarlett has a big secret to keep. But nothing stays secret for long in Hollywood.

In television star Lauren Conrad's dishy, entertaining novel about young Hollywood, the lies are only as sweet as the people telling them.

Editorial Reviews

VOYA - Jane Van Wiemokly
Jane Roberts continues her reality television show adventures in this second of three planned books in the L.A. Candy series. This story concentrates on Jane's relationships—with friends, nonfriends, and boyfriends. She can't figure out how the local gossip magazine is supplied with rumors about her. She stays in an unhealthy relationship with bad boy Jesse, who drinks and is abusive. She's too naive, or unaware, that new "friend" Madison is the source of the rumors about her. In the end, Jane learns who her true best friend is, but she is still ambivalent about her dating judgment . . . as well she should be. She is portrayed as shallow, trusts a new friend over one she's known for most of her life, and can't see what's right in front of her. She and most of the characters project superficial values, such as hooking up after meeting someone once and underage drinking. Most of the characters are not sympathetic—they throw over friends as if they were flapjacks yet can't understand why they're not liked. Suspicion of others, whether about their professional or personal life, seems to be an overriding factor. Trite characters in trite plots, no matter how up to date they are with their texting and OMGs, are still unoriginal and not worth our caring. All this could be overlooked if the book were better written. Despite this, it will be sure to be popular with similar reality show watchers, fans of ex-Hills star Conrad, and readers who extol celebrity even if undeserved. Reviewer: Jane Van Wiemokly

I loved L.A. Candy no doubt, but Sweet Little Lies was AMAZING, I didn't put this book down once, I read it in a couple of hours. Lauren really brings out the characters in this book and really develops them. There is so much more drama in this book that you can't put it down because it just draws you in. I would tell any girl from the ages of 16-18 to read this book, it's a fun read.

This book was awesome. I have already read the first book, which I recommend you do before reading this, as it helps the story flow. Lauren Conrad is a wonderful author and I look foward to enjoying more of her exceptional story-telling. I am a 14-year-old girl and if you're anywhere in this age range, I sincerly believe you will enjoy this book.

I was a little scept. about reading the first book of the series but once i did i enjoyed it a lot it is such a fun chicklit read and easy and fast too. The second book though, loved it, keeps you on your toes wanting more, it's a fun young adult summer read.

I got an advanced copy of this book, and I have to say that this book is amazing!! It is incredibly juicy, descriptive, and interesting!! You get an inside look on Hollywood Reality Shows (as in, The Hills, etc), and find yourself captivated and dawn in from the first page. This book is a don't-miss page turner!!

Sweet little lies should be combined with L.A Candy 'cause its the same plot with the same things happening. It seems like they cut off the first book into two parts and just made it seem like two separate books. It wasn't that great but great enough to get me craving for the next book...

I liked this series. Pretty good, but totally just her life story in paperback form. Not even written by her. So I liked the series, I just wish it wasn't so egocentric.

Out of the L.A. Candy series this book is my favorite of them all. Sweet Little Lies is the most developed of the books and is suspense filled. Lauren Conrad's writing grew with each book and this is the best of the three. I would definitely recommend this book as well as the others in the series to young adults.
