Samantha Sweet breaks into houses for a living, and the things she discovers often lead to trouble. When she finds an unmarked grave on a property in a remote spot near Taos, New Mexico, Sam calls the authorities. A dead body is more than she wants to deal with. A small mural painted inside a closet in the abandoned house provides clues and Sam is caught up in an investigation along with the good-looking Deputy Beau Cardwell. A fortune in artwork, a bogus will, and a wooden box that seems to give Sam powers she never dreamed she possessed--it all adds up to a dynamic paranormal romantic mystery.

Samantha Sweet is a wonderful main character in this sweet cozy mystery series. Most people will easily relate
to her - a single mom working multiple jobs while dreaming of her own business. I didn't expect to find such a
normal character in a book with a paranormal story line. This book provides a lot of interesting background
about Sam's many jobs - including cake baking, how the government rehabs abandoned houses to put them
back on the market, and how long lost art is valued and authenticated. The paranormal story involves a magical
box with powers that affect Sam. This will require the reader to dispel everyday logic. The author uses the box to
give Sam information she needs to solve the book's mystery. You'll have to sit and read the book for any more
plot information. This reviewer is not a spoiler! Enjoy!

This book wasn't at all what I expected but I LOVED it. This story provides a good introduction to the characters and a strong set up for the series and offers an interesting plot. The touch of magic with more than a touch of romance balanced the action well. I like the strong lead characters. I appreciated that Connie Shelton provides a believable reason for Sam’s involvement in the mystery. I read all four books almost without pausing and I am anxious for more. Was this review helpful? Samantha (Sam) Sweet has a dream. That is to have her own Sweets business. For now, she does specialty cakes , cookies & cupcakes, while supplementing her income with breaking into homes for the USDA. Yup, that’s right. She goes into abandoned and repossessed homes, and cleans & fixes them up to be resold. Her worst nightmare is going into a home of a hoarder and having tons of paper fall on her. And this is the week of her worst nightmare, times 2. First she goes into a home to find an old woman, on her deathbead. Before she dies, though, she gives Sam a “special box”. This is the good part of the nightmare. Then she goes to another home and discovers an unmarked grave in the back yard. Throw in some romance, a mystery, and you have the makings of a good book. Was this review helpful? Yes NoThank you for your feedback. Report this reviewThank you, this review has been flagged.
