Overview

Nariella has a hard life. Hated and beaten by her foster father, she finds solace in the one person who has always been there for her-Rydan, her overprotective best friend. His sheltering only gets worse once Nari collides-literally-with Mycah. A boy being chased by two kinds of evil; a boy who Nari is convinced is either the devil or an angel. But she was wrong. He's something completely different.

Then there's Naminé. A servant who lives in fear for her family, for herself, and for the dying kingdom she lives in. But there is hope, and she's the only one who can bring that hope home to save them all. Naminé will risk everything to make that happen, even if it means betraying her king.

People always want the truth until they have it. To be let in on secrets until they get burned by them. Nari is no different. But once she's kidnapped, tortured, and ultimately becomes intertwined in a secret world she never could've imagined existed, she knows there's no going back to blissful ignorance. And maybe she doesn't want to.

If darkness is the absence of light, what results from the absence of truth?

Nothing but Oblivion.

    Good

I'm only giving it four stars, because the author was stingy with information throughout the book. I wanted hints and clues about what was going on, teasers or "read between the lines" situations, but I was strung along until the last few pages where everything was revealed all at once. Yeah, I get that things are revealed at the end, but I almost didn't finish the book. You could have read the last few pages and have known as much as if you would have started at the beginning. Also didn't like the other storyline going on at the same time, because, again, it wasn't really explained until the end. Some people may be okay with this, but it really annoyed me. I will however, continue the series, because I'm now drawn in after all was revealed.

Aspect I DID like was that Nari and Mycah were really likable characters. I liked the chemistry. The premise of the story was also very good, which is why I kept reading after becoming annoyed about being kept in the dark about so many things throughout the book.

    Good story, good characters

The author tried hard to make the main female character a person most people could empathize with. The emotional connection to characters is missing in many new books. I think that's what makes this story successful.

I had high expectations when I started reading Sweet Oblivion an

I had high expectations when I started reading Sweet Oblivion and I was really excited. My expectations and all I thought I knew about the book turned upside down but in this case it wasn't a bad thing. I enjoyed reading the story and especially towards the end it got really intriguing and I was left yearning for more.

There's two different point of views in Sweet Oblivion. Even though every other chapter is narrated by Naminé, they're extremely short when compared to chapters narrated by Nariella. That's the main reason why I won't give all the stars to this book. Nariella was good, solid character and I liked her chapters but Naminé's chapters weren't that good - mainly because they were so short. First I yearned for those chapters so I could learn more about Naminé and her world but eventually I became dreading them, because I couldn't follow what happened there and they seemed more like snippets than chapters. It felt like Sweet Oblivion was more of Nariella's story than Naminé's and I have high hopes for the sequel - I do want to learn more about Naminé and her story.

As character, Nariella was really different from other YA female main characters and I was glad because of it. She wasn't afraid to cry or show emotions. Her life wasn't easy but she wasn't hardened because of that and she wasn't trying to be stoic and unemotional. It was great! Besides these two main characters there sure was swoon worthy characters, especially Mycah and yes, even Rydan stole my heart. They were both wonderful in a different ways and the big reveal in the end of the book, let me just say, it was mind-blowing!

Sweet Oblivion was a great start for series but at times it was a little bit too slow paced. There was a lot happening there and getting to know Nariella, her friends, Mycah and Rydan, and there even was some serious action but overall there happened very little in almost four hundred pages. It was kind fresh for a book because the big secrets weren't revealed until the very end instead of middle of the book like many YA stories do, but at times I got a little bit bored with all the contemporary stuff. I wanted the fantasy stuff to happen! Hopefully there'll be lots of fantasy elements and action during the sequel, at least Sweet Oblivion's ending suggest it.

Overall Sweet Oblivion was a great story but Naminé's small role and a little too slow pace at times eats away some stars from my rating. I'll still recommend highly this book if the synopsis sounds even a little bit intriguing because it's a good book. And I'll definitely dive in the sequel with pleasure and hope for more of Naminé!

This is an amazing first book to an equally amazing series!! Bailey Ardisone's writing is beautiful and magical; it transports you into Nariella's world and you feel what she feels. Also, with the duel point of views of Namine it adds an air of mystery that will get answered in due time! It was an amazing read that I would recommend to any and every one.
I recevied this book free on my Nook and was immediately sucked into buying the rest of the series. Absolutely no regrets.

This book was amazing! It took me only a couple of hours to read because I neglected everything else.
Meeting Nari, Rydan, Mycah (swoon), and Namine has been fabulous and I can't wait to read more.

    Enchanting YA paranormal fantasy!
    Wow...just....wow.
I read - no, I devoured - this book in only two days. Could not put it down, stayed up late into the night -- it was that good.
Nari is a seventeen year old girl who has led a tortured life thus far. Unloved, unwanted, the only solace she has is with her best friend Rydan. Then her senior year begins and she makes a couple more friends; things appear to be looking up. *cue heartthrob music* Enter Mycah, everyone's favorite sexy bad boy. With an English accent. Why does danger seem to follow him wherever he goes, and why is Nari powerless to avoid him?
Can not wait to get my hands on book #2!
Refreshingly rated PG, I would recommend this book for readers 15+.

LOVED IT! OMG, what more can I say. The story line was intriguing and captivated my interest from the very beginning.
The author did a fabulous job of delicately weaving suspense, foreshadowing, and a good sense of humor into the plot.

I've tried for a long time to write a more professional sounding

I've tried for a long time to write a more professional sounding review than just "THIS BOOK IS AWESOME!" but, after thinking it over for a few weeks, I just can't.

There is nothing about this book that I didn't like. The characters were developed extremely well and I loved every single one of them. The backstories, mystery, and tension were amazing and I couldn't put the book down. I loved it so much, I immediately bought the second book in the Sweet series and read it immediately after I finished this one!

World building and details - awesome. I was pulled into the story and felt like I was really there in each scene, feeling, seeing, hearing, tasting, and smelling everything the characters did.

Epic story telling! There was great flow, plenty of tension (both romantic and otherwise), and come on, elves. Can't go wrong with elves!

Sorry, that this review isn't more detailed, but honestly, this book is simply amazing. Everyone who loves a good read should pick this up, especially if you love elves and great storytelling.
