Kristina Sugar who is usually just called Sugar, always volunteers to be a bell ringer during the Christmas season. She does it because she loves it. This year she's see's a face from the past at the store that she rings the bell at. Patrick, she has not seen him since high school. Through a misunderstanding all those years ago she has not had the friendliest thoughts of him. Patrick soon clears all that up and they seem to like each other. Then one day while walking home from work Sugar has problems breathing and stops at the urgent care clinic. They send her to the emergency room and there she stays as she has to have fluid drained from her lungs. Then she finds out that she has cancer. She knows that she does not have the money to pay for treatment and does not know what to do. Patrick has a solution. He is devastated to find out that Sugar has cancer and no health insurance. So he offers a proposal she can't refuse. Marry him and use his health insurance. They can stay married for a year and then get a divorce. Patrick wants more then being married for a year. He wants it to be permanent. But Sugar thinks that he only pities her and intends on trying to pay him back. Starting with getting that divorce so that he is not stuck with her. My opinion: First of all it took me a bit of time to read this book as it cuts close to home as someone close to me recently passed away due to cancer. However, I really liked it. I found Sugar to really be a bit mean to Patrick, however knowing what cancer patients go through with Chemo and radiation I find it understandable and realistic. I thought the author did a wonderful job with Patrick. He was amazing to be there for Sugar the way he was when in reality he barely knew her. I really found it to be a great story. I recommend reading as long as reading about someone with cancer does not bother you. 'Read and Reviewed by LSK Sweetheart Reviews'
