Praise for Sweet Evil: “Well written and enticing… Paranormal romance fans will line up to read it… it will draw readers back for the remainder of the Sweet Trilogy.”-VOYA (starred review)
School Library Journal
04/01/2014
Gr 9 Up—This third and final book in Higgins's "Sweet" trilogy finds Anna Whitt, daughter of an angel and Belial, the Duke of Substance Abuse, preparing to fulfill her destiny of ridding the world of demons and releasing herself and her fellow Nephilim from performing their various sinful obligations. Armed with a team of supporters, both Neph and human, as well as the love of Kaiden Rowe, son of the Duke of Lust, Anna's adventures take her on the road, ultimately winding up at the annual summit of Dukes in Sin City itself, Las Vegas. The journey forces Anna to face and overcome her various urges, ultimately marrying Kaiden in a mile-high ceremony on a private plane and subsequently consummating their union (repeatedly, as it seems that every glance between the two of them is a smoldering one), as well as guzzling the contents of a hotel mini-bar in order to confuse Kaiden's father, Pharzuph, when he comes to test their "bond" (apparently, it is harder for a demon to detect when one party is drunk). The Christian message of good winning over evil and God's victory over the devil is more heavy hitting in this book than in the others, at times verging on cliché (when all else is failing in her final battle against the Dukes, Anna reverts to prayer to help confirm her victory); however, it is ultimately an appealing paranormal romance that will appeal to both secular and religious audiences alike.—Joanna Sondheim, Columbia Grammar & Preparatory School, New York City

I don't even know where to start with this book. What can I say?

I don't even know where to start with this book. What can I say? I loved the first two books of the Sweet Trilogy, and I was expecting a lot from the third and final book. And, hell yes, it delivered! Sweet Reckoning was a brilliant conclusion to an amazing series. It was everything I hoped for and more. I can't overemphasize how much I loved this book. Fans of the series, you will definitely not be disappointed.

Anna was wonderful. Over the course of the first two books, she slowly became stronger and, in this book, she proved that she was a force to be reckoned with. She faced down demons, determined to save who she could and usher in a new age for the Nephs. All the while, she stayed a genuinely kind person who is impossible not to like. I loved her in the previous books, and I loved her even more in this one.

Kaiden...how I adore him. He was so sweet and determined to stand by Anna, no matter what. He showed just how much he was willing to risk for a chance at redemption and a chance to be with the girl he loved and proved that he was a hero worthy of the title. Ugh, he's just so perfect. I adored him so much and I'm so sad that I don't get to see more of him after this. Oh, well. That's what rereading is for :)

The romance was lovely. Anna and Kaiden are just so sweet together, with some serious chemistry that got surprisingly hot. Their relationship took a turn that I wasn't expecting and that might be a little controversial with some readers, but I really liked it. It might not work for every couple, but it worked for them. They were a perfect couple.

All the other characters were wonderful as well. Kope, Blake, Jay, Marna, Ginger, Zania. They all proved themselves as strong and willing to fight for the chance of freedom from the Dukes. Some of their stories had surprising twists that were both amazing and broke my heart. I loved them all and I'm so happy with how things ended for (most of) them.

My only two problems with the book were: 1) it toed the line becoming preachy, with its slight emphasis on prayers and Christianity, which might make some people uncomfortable, and I didn't love it either. 2) After the final battle, we get a couple of chapters of aftermath and an epilogue (which I LOVED!), but I wish I could have seen more on how the Nephs  as a whole found a way to move on and make a new life for themselves. Of course, both of these were very minor issues and didn't have much of an effect on how much I adored the book.

The plot was fast paced and I was utterly riveted the entire way through. This book took so many twists and turns and surprises that I never saw coming. I was totally on the edge of my seat. Woe to the person who tried to interrupt me while I was frantically reading this. The story was thrilling, romantic, and everything I could want in the conclusion of one of my favorite series. The ending was amazing, and I loved how the epilogue showed how things turned out for our characters. I'm so sad to see this series end, but I couldn't have asked for a better conclusion.

Sweet Reckoning was just brilliant. I loved this book so much! It was a perfect conclusion to a fantastic series. From beginning to end, it was thrilling, romantic, and a wonderful read. Fans of the series, you won't be disappointed. And, YA romance lovers, the Sweet Trilogy is a must read.

    Fun, easy read

I am a huge fan of romance/action/angel/dystopian type books. This was one of my favorite series. Very steamy, but never boring with the action. The characters were well developed and often funny. Very fun read.

Within this book, everything we've prepared for in the first two books is finally coming together. We get a bit more steaminess among the nephs, and I really like how the author pulled that off and still kept it YA friendly.

There were only a few issues I had, and they took place just before the epilogue, but over all, I love this trilogy! Love it!

It was so hard to say Goodbye to Kaidan and Anna and all the oth

It was so hard to say Goodbye to Kaidan and Anna and all the others after everything that happened over the course of the three SWEET EVIL books. There is a lot of drama and teen angst, also some of the best and happiest moments our characters could wish for. I can't believe SWEET EVIL almost remained a standalone novel a few years ago and now we've been lucky enough to get three whole books out of the story. Wendy Higgins always puts a certain clever spin on events and leaves room for surprises. Her books are merging together seamlessly into one big constantly well-plotted and beautifully written story.

Anna and Kaidan's romance is the biggest part of the story, and I'm sure their fans wouldn't want it any other way. Their relationship is even more intimate, trusting and steamy than before. Actually, it's even more romantic than I imagined it to be. Now there are some very deep emotions that have grown from the strong physical attraction that brought Kaidan and Anna together in the first place. The progress they are making as a couple is just as immense as their own personal maturation. Wendy Higgins' writing makes for a whole bunch of happy readers in the end.

No other series has as many secondary characters that I just can't get enough of as the SWEET EVIL series. Blake, Kopano, Zania, the twins and all the other friends and allies that are set to fight evil. Their stories and relationships, of love and friendship, meant just as much to me as Kaidan and Anna's love story. They all belong together and are bound by their loyalty, love and common goal.

Some readers will probably not be okay with some things happening towards the end of Anna's story. I had to wrap my mind around the fact that they were happening for the greater benefit of Anna and Kaidan's relationship and their friends. The only part I'm still hoping to forget is the epilogue. I found it corny and not in sync with the original story's voice. But SWEET RECKONING isn't the first book with a last chapter that didn't quite fit with my taste.

SWEET RECKONING is the conclusion to a beloved trilogy, so naturally I want to tell you all about my favourite scenes (there are so many), but you have to find out on your own how Kaidan and Anna's story ends. And now I'm wishing for many more books written by Wendy Higgins!

5/5 ***** SWEET RECKONING - A blazing end to one of the best sexy YA series by the sweet Wendy Higgins!

When I first picked up Wendy's debut SWEET EVIL I couldn't foresee how hard I'd fall for Kaidan and Anna's love story in the end. Kaidan is one of my absolute favourite book boys, the conflict between heaven and hell is as absorbing and the story in SWEET RECKONING as fast-paced as in the previous two books. This is the exact right pick for readers who are looking for a series with a hell of a paranormal story background and a romance on the hotter side of YA contemporary.

Things pick up fast in Sweet Reckoning and as readers we’re taken on a wild ride through the entire story.

Like I said Sweet Reckoning picks up quickly and I was right back in the story with our main characters. I was so glad that Anna and Kaidan finally got all their stuff together and made some life changes. That’s all I’m going to say… no spoilers la la la la. Just know that in this book I grew to love Kaidan even more and Anna is okay in my book now.

So much happens in this book that it completely made up for the slower story line in book two. I swear my heart never stopped racing while I was reading. There were also tears. At one point in the story the author makes a horrible decision, seriously horrible. She bumps off my favorite character! No, I won’t tell you who, but I was pretty distraught. Quite honestly I still am, I mean I think it was completely pointless this person could have lived! What is it with authors and killing off awesome characters? It’s like they enjoy giving us heart ache or something

Sweet Reckoning and the entire Sweet Trilogy was so good in many ways. It was action packed, I loved our hero (so-so on the heroine), but overall it just couldn’t hit five stars for me. I can’t pinpoint what it was, but I just felt like something was missing. Every time things would get really good and I kept thinking “this is the moment when this series goes five stars” ….. it just didn’t. For pretty much every other five star book or series I have I can tell you when it hit that higher level of rating for me, but it just didn’t happen with this series.

I think my biggest issue with Sweet Reckoning was that I never knew the plan. Multiple times in my notes I ask, “what is there plan?”. Most of the time I’m not quite sure they had one. I didn’t like feeling as if events were just happening to our characters and they had no choice but to go along with it. Right up until the final big fight scene (and it’s big) I didn’t how they planned to succeed.

The end of the book left me with a lot of questions. There is an epi, but it doesn’t really give us anything. I wanted to know everything that every single character is doing. Okay, maybe not that much, but at least more details that we get in the epilogue.

When the day is done I did like the Sweet Trilogy. Sure it’s not going to live on in my heart forever like the Lux series, but I don’t regret the time I spent reading it. If you’re looking for an action packed, paranormal young adult read, this is definitely a series I would recommend. Money well spent.

Oh the bitter-sweetness of the last book in a series, and the things that happen in Sweet Reckoning make you smile, swoon, and have several "Oh my Gawd" moments.  Sweet Reckoning was definitely my favorite book out of the series.  I loved where Wendy Higgins took the romance and relationship between Kaidan and Anna - it was downright hot.  Didn't know my girl had it in her, but she does, and she ends up being a kick-butt heroine also.  Kaidan had me totally swooning over him in this novel.  I totally loved the person he became in this book.  He wound up being quite the hero.  All of the other secondary characters played big roles as well - Ginger and Marna - the twins,  and their bittersweet finale.  Then there is Jay, bless his heart, Patty, and of course my favorite of all, Blake.  I still so wish Blake had his own book - I just loved him.

That said, the ending is epic and I thought Wendy Higgins concluded the series very well.  She even provided an epilogue, which is something I love, and I totally loved this epilogue.

My Opinion:  Fantastic series that young adult and adult fans of paranormal romance will love.  Definitely buy it, you won't be disappointed.

Buddy-read this one with Rashika as well and, as a whole, I can say that this series is made of win. Light, fun, fast-paced and character-driven, Sweet Evil and its following novels bring you laughs and enjoyable reading experiences. While Sweet Reckoning wasn’t my favorite novel from the whole series, nor one of my favorite series endings, I did truly enjoy this read.

“We are not running. This is happening whether you like it or not. It's time to get your game face on and get ready to kick some ass.”

I want to get the slightly bad things out of the way first and then move on to the better stuff. Ok, so there is nothing wrong with everyone finding their soul-mate inside the pages of one book and from the inner circle of the main and secondary characters. Gawd knows I love all three pairings in the Addicted and Calloway Sisters series. However, there was just something so annoying about all the couples all ending up together in Sweet Reckoning. Of course, there’s one exception, but that’s due to extreme circumstances and if those were different, these two would have ended up together 100%. Also, I’ve said it before that Patti and Anna can be a tad overwhelming with their endless love and sweet natures, so don’t expect anything other in this installment. This cotton candy combination tastes just as sweet in your mouth as it did last time.

Other than that, I loved how the book was built towards a great climax that lasted throughout multiple chapters and even more pages. I wish there had been more action in the first half of the book which, while light and well-paced, felt a little boring. The second half though—that was just brilliant and so enjoyable. The stakes were high and even though the inevitable death of one of the important characters (during the final battle) was pretty predictable, it still fascinated me and made moi excited about all the action that Wendy managed to portray beautifully. What’s more [POSSIBLE MINOR SPOILER IN THE NEXT 2 SENTENCES], I love that Sweet Reckoning deals with sex in YA lit and it wasn’t just a blackout scene. It was very steamy for YA and totally pushes some boundaries, but manages to do it with class, swoon and put a cute flirty spin on things.

And last but not least, I need to shout some love for the characters. Completely head over heels with Kaidan! Love him so, so, so much. Epilogue was just the bestest! Brought me on the verge of tears. That’s how you finish a series! I also fell hard for Kai and Blake’s bromance. So much swoon, you guys! Anna has a strong mind-set and I admire her for this. She’s not Rose Hathaway nor is she a Celaena Sardothien with her kick-assery, but she’s still a great heroine to follow and root for. And of course, I enjoy reading about Anna’s dad. He’s a fun character who brings logic and reasoning to the picture, and I couldn’t have been happier about having seen even more father-daughter relationship development.

As I said in my introduction, I have thoroughly enjoyed this series. It has a slightly different take on angels and brings you a wonderful cast of characters to hang out with. Don't let the rating fool you! (It's 3 instead of a 4 because I feel like in a year, I would remember enjoying the final installment, but not so much about what actually went down. That's just me though!) Sweet Reckoning is packed with high stakes, character development (still) and while there are quite a few frustrating moments (or characters *eyes Marna and Jay*), the good stuff easily outweighs all the annoyance one could feel and I can’t recommend this series enough. If you haven’t read these yet, go ahead and give them a try!

Overall rating: 3.5 out of 5.0

One of the best Nephilim/Demon series ever written!
Of course, I loved it as I knew I would. However, I was so not ready for this sweet and yet sexy young adult angel/demon series to end.
I literally put off reading this final book for months because I just wasn’t ready to say good-bye to this group of wonderful characters.
Angel/demon mythology is right up there with vampire mythology for me and this series is one of my top favorite paranormal series.

Anna’s dad, Belial is seriously my favorite dad character ever. I loved watching his relationship with Anna evolve throughout the entire series,
but especially loved his role in this book. Without spoiling what happens, Belial once again plays a substantial role in aiding Anna & her Nephilim
allies’ in their quest to rid the Nepilim of the Dukes, demons responsible for corrupting souls.

There were a lot of surprises along the way – astonishing me, cracking me up or making me exclaim in sympathy.

A few of my favorite Anna & Kaidan moments:
His smile was wickedly sexy. “I’m not as hard to please as you might imagine. But don’t worry – I’ll show you anything you want.”
     ***
“Come on, Kai… my freckles are getting impatient.”
    ***
“If we both, you know, end up down there…” I cleared my throat. “In hell. We can make it through together. We’ll keep each other strong until
it’s our time for our judgment.”

He said nothing, and from the corner of my eye I saw his Adam’s apple bob as he swallowed.

“I’ll never leave your side,” he whispered. “I swear it.”
    ***
Do the Neph succeed in their mission or end up in hell? How this question was answered tugged on all of my emotions in an oh-so-good
    and satisfying manner.

Although Sweet Reckoning concludes this fantastic trilogy, the author has given in to fans’ pleas for more Kaidan Rowe by writing
Sweet Temptation, the series told entirely from his POV. Look for it to be published in 2015. I can’t wait since I definitely sigh for Kai!

Sweet Reckoning wraps up The Sweet Evil Trilogy in an enticing red bow.

Even when Anna and Kai are at opposite ends of the country, their attraction to one another is intense. "Blood whooshed through my body. A Kai buzz. Oh, he was totally using the bedroom eyes...Even from the other side of the country, this boy was dangerous." (13)

Unfortunately romance isn't the only thing on Anna and Kai's minds. With the help from their Nephilim allies, Anna and Kai are prepared to take the Dukes of Sin down, including Kai's father, The Duke of Lust.

"Let's bring them down. You and me and the others, together. We'll use our element of surprise while we have it. It's our time." (267)

In Sweet Reckoning, we learn more about Anna and Kai's allies, including Kopano, the Son of Wrath, Ginger & Marna, the Daughters of Adultery, and Blake, the Son of Envy.

I absolutely adored Sweet Reckoning & I would recommend this trilogy to anyone who enjoys reading because it simply has something for everyone.
