Sweet Silver Blues (Garrett, P. I. Series #1) [NOOK Book]

Overview

It should have been a simple job. But for Garrett, a human detective in a world of gnomes, tracking down the woman to whom his dead pal Danny left a fortune in silver is no slight task. Even with the aid of Morley, the toughest half-elf around, Garrett isn't sure he'll make it out alive from a land where magic can be murder, the dead still talk, and vampires are always hungry for human blood.

Editorial Reviews

From Barnes & Noble
Garrett P.I. fans will welcome the reissue of this fantasy noir starring the gritty detective. In Sweet Silver Blues, Garrett is up to his ears in gnomes, vampires, centaurs, and at least one renegade half elf. A hard-boiled tale for readers with a taste for the supernatural.
Library Journal
Private investigator Garrett, hero of the Cantard Wars, reluctantly agrees to return to the perilous Cantard mining country in search of a missing heiress. His companions include a renegade half-elf, a trio of frog-like ``grolls,'' and two sharp-tongued women with their own interest in the quest's successor failure. Cook's laconic style brings a dose of gritty realism to the fantasy genre. This latest adventure by the author of ``The Black Company'' trilogy is recommended. JC
From the Publisher
Cook turns fantasy inside out. (Locus)

    Excellent read

Glen Cook intrduces you to the world of Randall Garrett. Garrett is a tough Marlow style detective in a world of elves, faries, trolls, and magic. Garrett uses his wits and friends to rescue the girl and solve the mystery. A great read

    I Also Recommend:

Decent plotline but very tedious at times

While this book came highly recommended by a member of the B&N staff, it was difficult for me to get through. The plotline, while decently well fleshed, was tedious at times due to the over abundance of twists and turns. Far too much drama in the character's past that really didn't get adequatly explained. So, ok, but not great.
