From #1 New York Times Bestselling Author Barbara Freethy comes a poignant, and charming romance about going home, falling in love and finding yourself.

Roman Prescott has always lived his life in the shadows. Being invisible meant staying alive—during his troubled childhood and his years as a soldier. But when an injury sends him back to the small town of Fairhope, he can't hide from his past or the light brought forth by a beautiful pastry chef.

Having lost her parents at a young age, Juliette Adams has had her share of tragedy, but now she fills her days making sweet desserts in her bakery and trying to recapture her happy childhood. Then she meets an attractive, brooding man, who is not only tearing down her old house but might just tear apart her fragile future. She's not interested in the tragic love story she was named after—she wants a love that will lift her up, that will last, and this sexy soldier has one foot out the door.

They both know they should ignore the sparks between them, but Valentine's Day fever has lit up the town and old love letters and long-buried secrets keep bringing them together. Can these two wary souls get past their fear of loving and losing to finally win the greatest love of all?

If so, what could be sweeter than that?

Barbara has done it again! Another book that catches you from page one and keeps your attention growing until the very last page! This book was a sweet little book centered in a small little town where love is always bound to happen! Many little love circles in this books ties into one big story of love and happiness by the time the book is finished!

Barbara Freethy never fails to deliver no matter what genre she is writing for a particular book, her characters always have a lot of depth. Sweet Somethings pairs up Roman and Juliette. Both of them returning to Fairhope after being gone for a long time. Roman leaving to join the Marines at 18 because he was considered a troublemaker after a bad childhood, and he wanted to find himself. Juliette forced to leave at 12 after her parents were killed. Roman returns to recover from injuries he sustained while on a tour of duty and to help his grandfather out with refurbishing a home he purchased. Juliette develops her love of baking from her father who had a bakery prior to his death, and after winning a baking contest comes back to open a bakery and to settle in the town that she missed so much, and hoping to find good memories from her childhood. Each of them having a hard time going home, and each one working through their struggles to being back home. They are both attracted to each other, and each one fighting that attraction because one wants to leave town, and the other is setting deep roots. Charming book. Definite book to read.

Every time I read one of Barbara's books I have a new favorite book! Sweet Somethings was a really fun read. The small-town setting provided the background for several storylines besides the featured one about Juliette and Roman. Growing up in a small town myself made the book even more enjoyable. I thought the "Wish Cookies" sounded like such a fun Valentine tradition, I wanted to buy one!

SWEET SOMETHING a coffee shop novel by Barbara Freethy. A definite winner again for Barbara. For those of us who love old Victorian houses and the sweet smells of a bakery. The town is called Fairhope. We have a returning soldier, Roman helping his grandfather with restoring a Victorian house. Not just any, but the special one that Juliette grew up in. hoping someday to buy it. Then again maybe she would be better off leaving the past and look to the future. All the changes in her life since losing her parents , and the house since she was twelve. She owns a bakery and loves making the sweet deserts for people. That too is the memories of doing it with her Dad. Can these two people who have walls, and hurts around them, find a future without the walls, and love. A delightful book that would be enjoyable to read by all. Given ARC by author for my voluntary review and my honest opinion.

Such a sweet romance! Juliette owns a bakery in a small town she has recently returned to after having left when she was 12 and her parents died. Roman has also just returned to the same small town, he left the town when he was 18 and joined the marines. He was a troubled teenagers and did some stupid things but he was a good kid, he just got blamed for things he didn't do. So Juliette wants to be back because she feels it will bring her peace after losing her parents a a young age and Roman is only back to recoup from a medical leave and help his Uncle restore Juliette's childhood home, which she wanted to buy. I loved watching how Roman was a grumpy bitter person at the beginning of the story but he becomes so sweet and kind because of Juliette. She is so cute and funny because she does not give up, if she wants something she will do it and can always make Roman help her. I think the development of the story and characters was written beautifully and I couldn't put the book down.

Juliette, the orphaned daughter of a local bakery owner, returns to her hometown to open a bakery herself after winning a national baking competition. When she meets Roman, a Marine on medical leave who is remodeling her childhood home for his grandfather, the sparks fly - but not the good kind! As the story progresses, we learn more about their early years growing up in the small town, as she moved to New York at the age of 12 after the death of her parents around the same time a troubled teenaged Roman moved to town to live with a grandfather he never really knew. It's a classic story of will they/won't they, and will he overcome his rebellious teenage reputation, all while they befriend others in a small town full of interesting people. I really enjoyed this book. It was a quick, sweet read full of minor characters I would love to read more about at a later time. It would make a great series. And the main characters, Roman and Juliet, were a couple I wanted to root for throughout the book. I will be interested to see the movie Coffee Shop about the town itself and those other small-town characters.

Enjoyed this, let me just say it "sweet story". I have now watched the movie and enjoyed this story more than the movie. This reminds me of those old Harlequin Romance books. Good light read.

Charming depiction of small town life and second chances in life and in love. Juliette lost her parents to tragedy when she was 12. She has returned to Fairhope, Alabama to open a bakery and take after her beloved father. Roman is a Marine home on medical leave helping his grandfather remodel Juliettes childhood home. Sparks fly when they meet and I enjoyed watching them finding their way to each other and fit back into the town. Sweet, sentimental and romantic

This is another sweet and wonderful book by Barbara Freethy. I am not sure where she keeps coming up with her wonderful plots and ideas, but I am sure glad that she does, If you love Hallmark movies, you will adore this book. It is a story of second chances for Juliette and Roman (you have to love the names). It's small town romance at its best. It is sweet without being sugary. Every town should be so lucky to have a coffee shop where romance is only a cup of coffee away. I received an ARC of this delightful book. The choice to read and review it was mine.

Everybody deserves their second chance. For some people it just takes a little more time to find it. Juliette and Roman are due to have some happiness in their lives. Having been dogged by tragedy and heartache, it's only right that the dark shadows fade to make way for more sunshine. But can these shadow hunters let go of the past and say hello to a brighter future? Sweet Somethings uses the past to influence the future. Brought together by an old house, an unforgettable love story and some surprising secrets this couple may finally find a place to call home. Each other. Ms. Freethy continues to surprise me with her frank candor, emotional stories and epic romances. Her voice is unique and her stories have a purity that shines through. Coffee Shop - A woman in search of a love that won't let her down. Coffee Shop and it's cast of characters mixes funny with a whole of heart to deliver a quirky yet lovable journey to a second chance love. Donovan is a woman on a mission. If she can get her head out of the past and listen to her heart. The charm was there, even in the lukewarm moments. A Hallmark card for the soul.
