A Great Tribute to Black Fathers

I read this book as a freshman in high school. This was our very first reading assignment. It definitely got me started off on the right foot and it truly catalyzed my love for reading!

If Young Bebe could have had one wish, it would have been for her family to be together. But as she ages, she realizes that this just isn't going to happen. She learns to appreciate her time with her mother, but she can never wait to go to the South to be with her father. In this book about memories and growing up, Campbell shows you a bit of what her life was like. There's no bashing of fathers. It's really about the love that she has for her father. Bebe is also surrounded by a great number of black men in her family! I love that! Campbell's mom instills pride and respect into Ms. Bebe at a young age. I somehow imagined Claire Huxtable and Rudy as mom and daughter. That's just how it made me feel. Excellent Read! Rest peacefully, Ms. Campbell. I'm starting a book club with a group of teenage girls, and this will be our first book!
