Children's Literature
Peggy finds a penny and puts it into a gumball machine. She is disappointed when instead of a gumball she receives a plastic ring. Then, when she is tucked into bed, she rubs the ring and a baby genie named Oliver appears. Oliver offers Peggy one wish and she wishes for everything she touches to turn into something sweet. Peggy and the tiny genie enjoy eating candy until Peggy's belly aches and they are both sticky and tired. But Oliver does not know how to undo the wish. Oliver's mother appears, reverses the wish and takes Oliver home. Peggy wakes the next morning and everything is back to normal. This is a cute story and the characters do learn a lesson, but it would have been better if the characters solved their problem themselves instead of having an adult intervene. The illustrations are realistic, colorful and enchanting. 2005, Star Bright Books, Ages 4 to 7.
