I find myself not able to put the book down, and waiting for the last minute to go eat or take a bathroom break lol. If you have time, this is a good book to read. I love the ending...

This is the third or fourth book by Barbara Freethy that I have read, and none of them--including this one--have disappointed me. The Sweetest Thing combines romance and adventure with a touch of the supernatural. It definitely kept me interested to the point of staying up late to read in order to get to the ending--which, by the way, was a good one. I recommend this book, as well as others by this author. There is only one thing about the e-version of the book that is strange, and that is the page count is way off. Although it is an average size novel, the page count leads you to think it is 900-some pages. However, after reading only a chapter or two, you discover you are already at page 100 or 150...so clearly there is some glitch in the page numbers. I do recognize that e-book page numbers do not always match regular hard copy page numbers, but this was crazy. I have noticed this same problem with all the books by Barbara Freethy. However, since they are standard size novels, I was more than happy with the length of the book. Happy reading!

Refreshingly different but in some places it gets a bit cliched. A solid book that is substantial enough to last you a while even though it is what I would call a "fluff book".

Barbara Freethy is one of my favorite authors and I love her books. But, this one had a touch of the para normal about it and I am not too much into ghosts and curses... Still Alex and Faith were a wonderful romance and the supporting cast were also well developed... Faith owns a bakery and Alex has founded and grown a sports footwear business into a huge company... Then appears Alex’s grandfather, a 12 year old daughter and he doesn’t want either. Faith has lost her fiance and his parents are bound and determined she is going to marry Gary’s brother Ben who has his own issues you may or may not see coming... A complicated story line that takes a while to develop but well worth the read... I think this is the only book of Ms Freethy’s that I did not give a five star rating. Still, I recommend it highly and you will enjoy!!

Strong point: Different from the usual romance
Weak point: Not as good as the usual fantasy
High point: Poignancy of daughter Jessie’s yearning for acceptance
Low point Protracted subplot with Faith dithering over a proposal
Faith and Alex strike some negative sparks when they first meet in her bakery. Alex is exasperated with his eccentric grandfather and alleged 12-year-old daughter. Faith thinks he should feel lucky to have any family at all--she grew up in foster homes. Faith and Alex are very different on the surface, but they share a deep loneliness stemming from an absence of love throughout their lives. Alex’s grandfather Julian insists that he brought a curse on his family as a young man when he removed an ancient sacred artifact from a remote cave and half it was lost. He believes that none of them will be happy until he restores the fragment and returns it to its proper place. As events unfold, Faith realizes that Julian’s story is true, and she is a key connection in the mystical solution to restoring happiness to everyone involved.
This is my first Barbara Freethy novel, and I found it just okay. She has an interesting premise, but the story doesn’t ring true and never catches fire. Neither the romance nor the mystical tale stands on its own as a strong element, and the solution to the mystery just seems to fizzle out. A few nice moments here and there.

I sorry but I read to page 120 and I had to stop. That family is possesive and manipulative of Faith. Faith needs to grow a backbone. Thats as far as I got not very interesting.

Have enjoyed everything I've read by this author. Her way of combining family stories with a bit of the supernatural always keeps my interest. Still reading The Sweetest Thing (I only have time to read on the train back/forth to work), but it's one of the highlights of the day. The family that's evolving with Alex, Faith, Julian and Jessie is very heartwarming.
