PreS-K-In this third book about Little Wombat, the marsupial learns a lesson about making judgments. He meets an unfamiliar creature, a platypus, and makes fun of its walk and fuzzy face. But the two become friends after Wombat tries to show off and sinks in the pond where Platypus is swimming. Patient Platypus teaches Wombat to swim, and they celebrate with a race as Wombat's friends cheer him on. These Australian animals may be unfamiliar to some children, but not Wombat's bad behavior, although once he gets to know Platypus, he has the grace to feel ashamed. The large, full-page illustrations are warm and reflective, and show the growing connection between the pair. They also depict the humor of the struggle as Wombat learns to swim.     You must own

    I read this book to my daughter at least twice a day, she loves it. The pictures are so colorful and the characters are so cute. She loves the animals on the pages and she gets the biggest smile when I turn the pages.
    It's a great story and you have to add this to your child's book collection.

    One of my favorite Authors!

    This is a classic story in my opinion that should be owned by all families. There are several in the series. A must buy.

    Our two-year-old requests it every night!

    It tells the story of Little Wombat, who makes fun of the funny looking and sounding Platypus, until, while mimicking platypus' strange waddle, Wombat slips and falls into the water and sinks to the bottom. Platypus dives to rescue him, teaches him to swim and the two become fast friends. They have a race amid cheers of 'Wombat, Wombat! and the contest ends with the two friends hugging in the water and Little Wombat enthusiastically calling himself a 'Wom-batypus!' The illustrations are rich and and the characters expressive. The action scenes capture the important dramatic moments that move the story forward. There is just enough text on each page to create a full and never tedious story. In addition to the main characters, the pages are filled with many other players - a worm in an apple smiles at Wombat as he first sees Platypus. As Wombat sinks, startled fish look on, and a dragonfly listens in as Platypus offers to teach Wombat to swim. The story itself is a great one for the 2-4 year-old age group - a time when friendships first form and learning new skills can be scary. It's good to have friends you can count on, and sometimes the fact that they are different from you, might just mean that they can teach you something valuable. A good lesson at any age!
