I bought this book when it first came out and loved every bit of it. It is a cute lighter side. I had a hard time putting it down. Well done Jimmy.

I thoroughly enjoyed this book! I was looking for something funny, but well told. I received everything I expected, and more. I will be going back for the author's other books and borrow his music from a good friend!

I have been a fan of Jimmy Buffet's since I was young, I love his music and have always wanted to read his books, finally bought one to try for the beach, though not the most literary writers of our time he is entertaining and the book was a great beach read. You can put it down and come back to it without feeling lost and the "what did I just read" feeling.

I'm not a reviewer or a critic.I have read all of Jimmy Buffett's books. I have been waiting on this one for a while.WOW!!! Wonderfully written in the only way Jimmy can.He can tell a story and create it so you are there and a part of the whole thing. Jimmy, don't pay attention to the reviewers and such, not like you ever have,LOL. Just think,if we all listened to what one person told us instead of the ones who truly mean something none of us would have ever got anywhere.Keep up the good work, and remember, There's a fine line between Saturday night and Sunday morning.

I enjoyed this book. However, A Salty Piece Of Land is a much better example of Jimmy in his element as a storyteller.

I really enjoyed this novel. It was a nice light read, while being very entertaining and fun. It is definitely a page turner. Thank you, Mr. Buffett!!!
Was this review helpful? Yes NoThank you for your feedback. Report this reviewThank you, this review has been flagged.Jimmy Buffett was presented with this idea, complete with photos by Helen Bransford, and he thought about it, and asked himself, "Swine Not?" - and this story was born.
Helen told Jimmy that it was based on something that actually happened...but a pig in a four-star hotel in New York City?
SWINE NOT? is a very entertaining romp told from the alternating points of view of Rumpy, the pig, and Barley, her boy owner. Rumpy is a pot-bellied pig who accompanies her human family to New York when they move there, and she has an agenda of her own. She heard that her brother, Lukie, is in New York City, and she is determined to find him.
They live in a glass box-like unit at the top of a fancy high-rise hotel. The hotel chef has a special affinity for pork, and he's sharpening his knives and dusting off his recipes with Rumpy in mind. Keeping Rumpy hidden is a challenging proposition that keeps the whole family on alert.
This story is not quite what I expected from the old pirate, but Jimmy Buffett tells a good tale in this light-hearted adventure that will appeal to all ages. The characters are compelling and the action never stops. It's a quick read that is highly recommended for reluctant readers.

This was a cute story but I would put it down and forget to pick it back up. I was hoping for something more like A Salty Piece of Land which I really enjoyed.

Life is always more fun than fiction and this book proves the theory.
Was this review helpful? Yes NoThank you for your feedback. Report this reviewThank you, this review has been flagged.I read this book not really knowing what to expect. I've read A Salty Piece of Land about a million times so I thought I knew what Buffett was about, but apparently not.
I loved this book, though. I would recommend it for a Jr High, Tween age person, not necessarily an adult, but it's good all the same.
This book turned out to be my favorite out of all of his books that I've read. Some parts I was even laughing out loud, and I enjoy books that make you do that. It's true that compared to his others I would consider this book more of a young-adult, but it was still great, and it would be perfect for kids who are struggling with moving to a new town, love soccer, have a pet pig, or is trying to hide their pig in a five-star-hotel with a crazy butcher that lives downstairs.

This is my third Buffett book and by far my favorite. I loved the perspectives each of the characters gives as they move from their relatively quiet and peaceful life on a farm to the storm of civilization that is New York City. Just like his music, Jimmy takes you away and makes you part of the story. Any escape from reality this soldier can get always helps. Thanks, Jimmy!!

As playful as some of his songs. Totally original Buffett! Gave it to my whole family to read and then we quoted most of it back to each other!

This is the first book by Buffett I've read and I really enjoyed it. The part about 'Respect' definitely had me rolling with laughter. I'll never look at pigs the same again.

I loved his music, but this book was an insult to my time. Maybe Jimmy was smoking something and needs the money!

So thoroughly enjoyable, I am going to recommend it to my nine year old grandson. The names of the pigs made me laugh out loud, as well as the the female pig giving her side of the story. This was my first Jimmy Buffet book. I am now a fan.

I¿ve always been told about pigs as pets and how smart they are, but I¿d never considered it. I still never will, but I certainly have more respect for them now. This was totally charming, and although told in part from the view point of the pig, believable, believe it or not! Rumpy has a twin brother that she hadn¿t seen in years, but when her family moved from Tennessee to New York, she has a chance to find Louie. The McBrides were originally from New York, but when Oliver went to Hollywood to find fame as a scriptwriter, his wife didn¿t follow but kept the home fires burning in New York. It was tough. So when the former beauty queen from Clarksdale, Mississippi turned into a single mom with an absentee husband learned that her Aunt Margaret in Tennessee had died and willed her the farmhouse, the family moved there. Eventually they divorced, but when she had an opportunity as a dessert chef at a fine New York hotel and restaurant, Oliver helped the family, including Rumpy, move. Rumpy, Barley and Maple, the kids, had some fine adventures in New York until the cold weather hit, and Rumpy was restricted to the house due to a rule about exotic pets. How Rumpy meets the Pigilantes, saves the Mayor¿s mother, and reunites with Louie makes a fine and hilarious tale!

Although this book doesn't even begin to relate to Buffett's salty ways, it is quite an unexpected hit with this business man. I have to say that it is the first book by Buffett that I have read and if most of the people who reviewed his other books were the same kind of person as the one who didn't like this book then I choose to ignore every bad review. This was by far one of my favorite books, a good escape from the norm.

A rolling stone gathers no moss, as does a closed mine travels not far. Anyone can write a review, siskel and egbert said Star Wars was a Failure and not worth the ticket 2 thumbs down. I am not a good critic of James Buffett as i have everything he has ever sung or wrote. I find him an incredible talent in both fields. I have always wanted to sit down with him for ten minutes just to chat, an incredible man. Few have done as much with their talents as Jimmy has done in his liftime. Each of his books brings back the adventure in me, I can close my eyes and image i am right there in the story. I have only started reading his newest creation and find it a jewel on the shelf surrounded by duldrums.

Jimmy Buffet usually writes witty entertaining stories but not this time...Swine Not? could have been a cute pop-up book for children but is not for adult readers. Whoever wrote the synopsis for the Barnes & Noble site needs to read more carefully. There are only 2 children in the story-a boy Barley and his twin sister fashionista Maple. Maybe the confusion came because the pig, who can read, play soccer and express human feelings is also female. On the positive side, the book isn't too expensive as spending $25 on it would make you sorry you wasted that much money on what is essentially a mediocre book for children.

Overview
Best-selling writer Jimmy Buffett weaves an irresistible new tale---filled with colorful characters, wry humor, and the pursuit of a very clever pig. When Southern belle Ellie McBride moves her twins from Vertigo, Tennessee to New York City, they wouldn't dream of leaving behind the family pig Rumpy. But the posh hotel where Ellie has found work (and living space) has "No Pets" writ large on its portal. So hiding Rumpy from the hotel staff---especially the ultra-carnivorous hotel chef, who would like nothing better than to transform their pet into pork roast---becomes imperative.
