Editorial Reviews

Children's Literature
AGERANGE: Ages 8 to 10.

The couple in a fancy move depict swing dancing which includes "twists and driving rhythms….{and} burning up the dance floor." The history of this dance form dates back to the 1920s. Swing really hit its heyday in the 1930s and 40s. One of the greats of swing is Frankie Manning who is now in his 90s. The couples shown dancing are certainly a lot older than the kids who would be reading this book. The girls for the most part are in their late teens or early 20s and while the basic steps are shown, there really is not much you can do without a partner or more detailed instruction. Unless a young reader is really interested in dance forms or is preparing a report, this book will probably not hold much appeal. As with other books in the "Snap Dance" series, there is a short glossary, a few fast facts, a limited number of titles to learn more (there is plenty of space on the page to augment these sections) and Fact Hound to help with Internet research.
