Overview

Volume Two of this weird series is identical in concept to the baffling first installment. The packaging and come-on are the same, the wildly mismatched music is even more incongruous with the pitch -- zooming through time from "Frenesi" to the theme from the TV show Frasier -- and for good measure, the Mel Tormé track "I'm Hip" makes raucous fun of the whole idea of "hipsters." For the record, the other artists this time include Jim Hall, Ken Peplowski, Charlie Byrd, Gary Burton, Frank Vignola, the Heath Brothers, Jack McDuff, Gerry Mulligan, Cal Tjader, Scott Hamilton, Monty Alexander, and George Shearing -- and I defy any Generation X-er (to whom this CD is presumably aimed) to make any sense of that. At least the music is good, though its only value as a whole is as a random sampler of Concordiana.
