Editorial Reviews

From Barnes & Noble
The Barnes & Noble Review
Diane Whiteside explores the dark side of sexual fantasies in this tale of controlled desire, submission, and domination. It kicks off when buttoned-down business woman Beth Nakemura goes to a Seattle bookstore, hoping to find a paperback fantasy, but instead meets tall, blond Sean Lindstrom in the erotica section. The two begin to play out elaborate BDSM fantasies, with Beth calling the tune, but the boundaries start to break down when the two experience feelings for each other. Although Sean's military training appears to make him the perfect submissive, Beth worries that he can't switch and be the dominant on occasion. It will take a major military operation for Sean to convince her otherwise.

Caution: This novel is best suited for readers who like their romances packed with extra heat, kinks, and a variety of sex toys. Ginger Curwen

Beth stepped in closer to him and traced his jaw with a single fingertip. Such a strong face, with eyes set under level brows, a straight blade of a nose, a slash of a mouth. The upper lip was tightly controlled above the more sensual lower lip, ready for laughter before cynicism. "Were you in the military?" she asked. Only this moment mattered, not what anyone else said. "I was a Ranger for eleven years." "Did you wear a helmet?" She traced his temple back to his ear, finding the faint prickle of freshly shaven skin. "Yes, ma'am." His heavy eyes watched her, questions kept back. "How far down did the helmet come on your forehead." He marked the line with the edge of his hand. "On the sides of your face?" He showed her with both hands. She caught his wrists, keeping the frame around his eyes and mouth. "Viking," she breathed, recognizing him from pictures in museums and old textbooks. From childhood dreams. He blinked in surprise but had the sense to stay still, letting the chemistry build between them. "Viking," Beth said again and kissed him. She traced his lips with her tongue, exploring their shape and strength, until his mouth opened under her gentle urging. "Viking warrior," she breathed into his mouth, just before hers took possession of him. They kissed slowly, learning each other's tastes and textures, until she pulled back. His hand dropped from her waist while she continued to caress his cheek. Sean took a deep breath and let his eyes close. She fondled his neck, enjoying the difference between his masculine strength and its innate vulnerability, laid bare by his severe haircut. She gradually remembered her self-discipline. "Have you ever wanted to worship a woman, Sean?" she queried huskily. "Yes. Hell, yes," he groaned. "Care to try it here and now, with me?" He nodded, a pulse pounding in his jaw. He was still frozen, outlined by the rippling firelight. "Of course, as the goddess present, I get to say what I want and you get to do it. Can you manage that?" "I can do whatever you say, Beth," he vowed, his eyes blazing blue fire. "Good lad," she sighed. "I'd rather like to be worshipped tonight. Come over here."

    Great Power Exchange Love Story

Great read without heavy sadistic behavior. It showes the caring side of power exchage games. This is a true love story that carries you along with both main characters emotions. Enjoyed all the way. It's a keeper.

    Elegantly written erotica

A wonderful story and superbly written. The development of attraction and love between the characters is believable and love making scenes built on their fantasies are divine! Suggestion: after reading a chapter, allow several minutes to cool down before facing the public or the family at the dinner table...very sensuous, sexy and seductive reading!

    Left Unfulfilled

While Diane Whiteside's historical novels held my attention to the very last word this one just seemed to peter out at the end. The characters started out strong but seemed to fade to two demensions. I'm not sure i can pin point when it happened, perhaps when the story stuttered at the heroine's almost too cliche rejection of the hero and his so easily winning over his family and hers to his cause, it just seemed to down patte and syrupy. i just can't give this story a fabulous rating but because it started out good and i decided to keep the book i will give it three stars.

    fine erotic romance

In 2001 Seattle, former Army Ranger Sean Lindstrom owns the building containing the bookstore near the BDSM dungeon. There he meets US Treasury Agent Beth Nakamura who is looking for various non-fiction sex books. She orders him into the backroom and he obeys her command. She demands the submissive follow her orders and Sean does everything she commands she do ending with him jacking himself off in front of her. She is stunned with how easily she took control of this big dude while he is shocked that he came easily as he has been a monk for about a dozen years. --- They agree to meet for more S&M lighthearted fun and when they do sparks fly. As they share sexual fantasies, Beth and Sean fall in love with one another, but both have monster doubts about a future together. He is a widower with a high school senior son whose memories of marriage are not that good while she was humiliated by her womanizing ex-fiancé so has trust issues. --- Though the opening encounter at the bookstore (not the ten years earlier military operation in Latin America) seems more a fantasy, erotic romance readers will appreciate this fine look at dominant-submissive behavior. The relationship between the lead couple starts off at a high bang and never slows down as they enjoy their sexual encounters. Not for everyone, THE SWITCH is a heated novel that takes adjusting to the topic, but once done readers will appreciate that the tough ex Ranger who could kill without blinking has a submissive streak in the bedroom now to find those satin ropes. --- Harriet Klausner
