Harness Powerful SPICE Simulation and Design Tools

to Develop Cutting-Edge Switch-Mode Power Supplies

Switch-Mode Power Supplies: SPICE Simulations and Practical Designs is a comprehensive resource on using SPICE as a power conversion design companion. This book uniquely bridges analysis and market reality to teach the development and marketing of state-of-the art switching converters. Invaluable to both the graduating student and the experienced design engineer, this guide explains how to derive founding equations of the most popular converters…design safe, reliable converters through numerous practical examples…and utilize SPICE simulations to virtually breadboard a converter on the PC before using the soldering iron.

Filled with more than 600 illustrations, Switch-Mode Power Supplies: SPICE Simulations and Practical Designs enables you to:

  • Derive founding equations of popular converters
  • Understand and implement loop control via the book-exclusive small-signal models
  • Design safe, reliable converters through practical examples
  • Use SPICE simulations to virtually breadboard a converter on the PC
  • Access design spreadsheets and simulation templates on the accompanying CD-ROM, with numerous examples running on OrCADË, ICAPSË, µCapË, TINAË, and more

Inside This Powerful SPICE Simulation and Design Resource

• Introduction to Power Conversion • Small-Signal Modeling • Feedback and Control Loops • Basic Blocks and Generic Models • Simulation and Design of Nonisolated Converters • Simulation and Design of Isolated Converters-Front-End Rectification and Power Factor Correction • Simulation and Design of Isolated Converters-The Flyback • Simulation and Design of Isolated Converters-The Forward

This book is destined to be the most accepted reference for simulation in industry. This book takes a very complex subject, simulating non-linear systems, and develops powerful methods and tools to predict and verify modern switching regulators behavior. This book bridges the esoteric world of state space averaging to the the single line of a PSPICE model. It is simply the best book ever written on power electronics simulation and a must have for the power designer. Thank you Mr. Basso!

Christophe has created an exceptional reference that immediately paid off in savings of development time and in increased quality of performance in my product. After one read through I was able to solve problems that had me puzzling for weeks. If you are one of the many engineers today who are compelled to charge in to switching power - where I might say "angels fear to tread" - you will waste your valuable time and resources every moment you do not have this book. Get it and benefit Immediately!

Author paid great attention to find the right balance between theory and lots of practical modern design examples supported by simulations for several major SPICE flavors. Book is divided in 8 well defined chapters, so that reader can jump to specific topic of interest. If you are new to the subject, read the whole book because the material goes from simple to more complex with recaps, references and appendixes at the end of each chapter. Included CD with all models/sub-circuits comes very handy to test your existing designs or start new designs with the highest confidence.
