Farraday Road by Ace Collins is a story about Lije Evans whose wife, Kaitlyn, was gunned down while they were driving on their way home. Left for dead by the killers, Lije Evans survived but was extremely grieved over his wife's death. He soon decides to investigate who and why somebody wanted them dead. As the story progresses, Lije Evans with the help of a few friends discovers a mystery connected to a property that his wife bought for him. He must act fast to solve this because the killers are still out there and are determined to kill him - again.
Farraday Road kept me glued to its pages for hours on end. From its starting pages, the thrill of a crime unsolved is already keeping me on the edge of my seat. It has several twists in the plot that has me guessing on and on for the whodunit. But there are also some parts that become too long or boring. I have to admit that towards the end there's an unexpected twist that had me asking what that has to do with the entire story. The ending was very exciting. The writer was able to resolve the twist in the tale BUT it did not resolve the whole mystery of who wanted them killed and why.
Just when I thought I would finally find out, the words to be continued. at the very last page of the book has left me very unsatisfied and ultimately mad. I mean what kind of author would write a story that would have you at the edge of your seat and not finish it? I was doubly mad because I just received this book from Zondervan Publishing for review and I had no idea if they were sending me the continuation. I'm just not used to a book like this.
Which is the reason for this post's double review:
A few weeks after finishing Farraday Road, I received another box of books from Zondervan Publishing. This box, thankfully, contained the second installment of the Lije Evans Mysteries - Swope's Ridge.
Swope's Ridge starts out with a story about a man who was suspected to be a terrorist. Again, we enter the exciting and dangerous life of Lije Evans, as he continues to investigate the death of his wife, Kaitlyn. Once again, author Ace Collins takes us through several twists in this plot which continues to have us glued to the story. Finally, this book finishes with a good ending. The crime is solved and Lije Evans is a changed man.
It's a good thing that Zondervan Publishing sent me this book or I would have been just so mad at Farraday Road for keeping me hanging. Farraday Road must be bought and read with Swope's Ridge. It's actually a big story that was made into two books. As a whole, it is very good. For someone like me who loves thriller/mysteries, this is very good and satisfying. Ace Collins is a very imaginative and excellent storyteller. Just make sure to purchase both Farraday Road and Swope's Ridge. Don't even start reading Farraday Road if you don't have Swope's Ridge in your bookshelf!
Every time we read about a person on death row who declares they are innocent up to and including their last breath we have to wonder. Are they really guilty? Are they innocent? Or are they delusional and believe their own lies?
This kept me riveted to this story to see how the cross and double cross was solved . . . or not.
I like a book that makes me think and ponder and search for truth.
Swope's Ridge is a fast-paced mystery loaded with political intrigue. The main characters are likeable and interesting. I do wish I had read Farraday Road, the first of the "Lije Evans Mysteries", before I read this one. Still, it was an interesting and entertaining mystery, and I will catch up with the first one next. I enjoyed that the characters considered matters of faith openly and with honest feelings that many people experience especially after the loss of a loved one. The mystery behind a piece of property spans all the way to Germany and involve events in the past. It is all brought together to a tidy conclusion. Look for the next Lije Evans Mystery to come.
