Children's LiteratureSyd has an exciting choice to make—her Mom is letting her pick any color to paint her bedroom. Readers will see the different hues she can choose and what each one compares to; for example, green is like leaves. Syd pays attention to the variety of colors around her as she goes about through her day and gives serious consideration to this important task. There are so many colors that it is hard for Syd to decide, but regardless of her final decision, she has fun helping her Mom paint the room. Although the writing is effective, the illustrations are lacking in quality; there is a nice use of color, but the actual paintings are nothing to get excited about. This title is from the Purple Level in the "Read It! Readers" series for beginning readers. The writing is basic, using repetition to make it easy for new readers to be successful in understanding the context and simplistic storyline. 2006, Picture Window Books, Ages 4 to 7.
