    Symphonie Fantastique is a great study in orchestration. This score is a good permanent reference.

    I am fortunate to have played this work in regional orchestras. It's a great experience and provides motivation to study. Concerning this particular score: The fictional story as well as Berlioz's real motivation in writing the work are included in the front section, along with important notes from the composer concerning tempo changes etc....

    The print is very clear. The book is portable, being part of Dover's miniature score series. I prefer the larger sized scores for making notes and comments, but found this to be a good value.

    About Symphonie Fantastique

    Matt Gray I really like Symphonie Fantastique. The great ones are the New York Philharmonic with Bernstein (1963), Chicago Symphony with Solti (1972), Cleveland Orchestra with Maazel (1982), and Philadelphia Orchetsra with Muti (1984). These performances are really good. If you like the peice you will like these performances of Symphonie Fantastique.
