Overview

Jung was intrigued from early in his career with coincidences, especially those surprising juxtapositions that scientific rationality could not adequately explain. He discussed these ideas with Albert Einstein before World War I, but first used the term "synchronicity" in a 1930 lecture, in reference to the unusual psychological insights generated from consulting the I Ching. A long correspondence and friendship with the Nobel Prize-winning physicist Wolfgang Pauli stimulated a final, mature statement of Jung's thinking on synchronicity, originally published in 1952 and reproduced here. Together with a wealth of historical and contemporary material, this essay describes an astrological experiment Jung conducted to test his theory. Synchronicity reveals the full extent of Jung's research into a wide range of psychic phenomena.

This paperback edition of Jung's classic work includes a new foreword by Sonu Shamdasani, Philemon Professor of Jung History at University College London.

"Synchronicity An Acausal Connecting Principle" is a must read for those interested in the subject of synchronicity. At 115 pages this book is deceiving at first glance as it appears to be a quick read. However, it is difficult to get through, not because it is uninteresting - but really because it is fascinating and much of the thought in this work is new and is counter to traditional thinking. Many of the concepts required me to re-read the information to increase my likelihood of comprehending the material. The translation is good, although it would be nice to have a new simplified version released which "dumbs down" some of the complex concepts. A fascinating book and well worth the time and effort.

This book is courageous and pioneering in an area of inquiry just now being firmly tied to science. Read this to get the foundations of many books concepts on synchronicity--from The popularized 'Celestine Prophecy' to the scientific and theoretical 'The Textbook of the Universe: The Genetic Ascent to God'. A new world is being made, and Jung laid the foundation. Don't miss this one!
