About the Author

Michael Dean Stubblefield, MD, joined Kessler Institute for Rehabilitation as Medical Director of Cancer Rehabilitation in 2015. He also serves as the National Medical Director of the ReVital Cancer Rehabilitation Program for Select Medical where he supervises the development of comprehensive cancer rehabilitation programs across their vast national network of rehabilitation facilities.

Description: This book, written by experts in oncology, is designed to assist healthcare professionals who care for cancer patients but do not have a background in oncology.
Purpose: The purpose is to provide healthcare providers a basic foundation in caring for cancer patients.
Audience: It is written for students, residents, and other trainees and practitioners who are not in the field of oncology.
Features: The book covers a wide range of topics in oncology, including characteristics of the disease process, treatments (including surgery, chemotherapy, and radiation), and the evaluation of treatment. Chapters are organized and concise. The helpful Key Points box in each chapter summarizes important information and the needs of the patient population. The only drawback to this book is that most of the contributors are from one institution. More diverse contributions would be preferable.
Assessment: This is an easy read for beginners struggling to understand the complicated discipline of oncology. In comparison to other books on oncology, this one is unique in its focus on professionals not familiar with the field.
