Editorial Reviews

Children's Literature - Tiffany Torbeck
Keeping children active is an ever-popular topic in the news, and neighborhood games are a great way to keep children moving. The authors of this book would like to teach readers about fun games that need little to no equipment but can provide fun for friends and family. May classic games are described, like Follow the Leader, Red Light/Green Light, and Volleyball, but there are some games that are gaining in popularity like Flying Disc and Cornhole. The basic rules of each game are presented, along with a mini-history and some new developments in the game. While the authors have the best of intentions, the tone of the book is somewhat defensive at times since some controversial games like Red Rover and Dodgeball are also included. A list of online resources is included, as is an extensive index. Both authors also include further information about their personal charities. While this is a good comprehensive guide to classic games that will age well over time, the defensive tone may make some libraries think twice. Reviewer: Tiffany Torbeck
