Kirkus Reviews
Some people just can't stay out of trouble. Only a month after he tangled with a decades-old murder in "Tahoe Deathfall "(p. 773), Lake Tahoe detective Owen McKenna is back to battle a murderous arsonist who first sets a fire that nearly claims Owen's home, and then-once Owen's been hired to investigate-kidnaps his ladylove, forensic entomologist Street Casey, and feeling Owen's breath on his neck, taunts him about the blaze he's about to set, destroying hundreds of houses, one of them Street's prison.

Meet the Author

Tahoe local Todd Borg is the author of the Owen McKenna Tahoe Mystery series, featuring Detective McKenna, natch, his Great Dane Spot, and a bunch of other cool characters. Of course, the books have gotten great reviews coast-to-coast, won awards like the Ben Franklin Award for Best Mystery of the Year, been chosen by Library Journal as one of the Top 5 Mysteries of the Year and more. But the main reason to check them out is that they are fun, fast reads with a lot of action and intelligent stories. The recurring characters will become your friends. Spot will become one of your favorite dogs. You'll love visiting Tahoe from your armchair. And the bad guys will make you... well, let's just say you will despise them. Borg has been waiting for you to give the books a try. P.S. Spot says hi.

    Another Great Owen McKenna Mystery

We start with a fire just below Owen McKenna’s cabin. After narrowly escaping, Owen learns that this was planned. A note was sent to the fire department saying that this was in retaliation of forestry fire procedures. We then learned that Jake Pooler was killed in the fire. He has a reputation of being a ladies man, having a bad attitude, being severely in debt, and not being the most popular person in Truckee.

When another note is received, everyone is on pins and needles. Although they try their best, two houses are burned like the note said and another life has been claimed, Joanie Dove. The trouble is Owen cannot figure out the connection between Jake and Joanie. Then Owen starts receiving notes, calls, a burned stuffed dog, and muscle to keep him away from the fire investigation, he goes on alert. But when Street is kidnapped, all bets are off.

I love the Owen McKenna series. There is great suspense. I’m always on my toes and when I think I know who did it, it turns out to be someone else. I loved how the story was wrapped up. I am now on the hunt for the rest of his books. This is one mystery series that you will want to read.

I received this book for free from Book Rooster in exchange for an honest review.

My e-book started on chapter eleven. Someone really screwed up, and I'm sute it wasn't Todd Borg.

    Heart-pounding! This a definitely a REreader

This is my first Owen McKenna book, and I already a fan. I ordered the first in the series the next day. (No wi-fi at home so haven't read it yet, and can't wait)
If the other books are close to the quality of this one, I will buy them all.
A complex mystery, strong characters, intense feelings and all set in a breath-taking location make this one a winner. The description of the setting brought me into the story where it could easily have interfered.
There was so much involved in the story, and I like the characters so well that I will probably read it again as soon as I finish Tahoe Fall.

Mystery/thriller writing at it's absolute BEST!

What a fantastic read! I was ready to jump out of my chair to start helping gather and solve clues to catch the bad guy --the really bad guy! Thrilling, exciting, intense. I checked to make sure my doors and windows were locked!'no kidnappers getting in HERE! ha!' The Owen McKenna series is just riveting. I can't get enough. 'I keep rereading them just to get more of the characters and storylines!' Each of the books in the 'Tahoe' series are top-of-the-line in plot, character development and fear factor..without being gory or gross or predictible. I wish each writer out there put as much 'oomph' and impact into their work as Todd Borg definitely does! A terrifying, satisfying read!
