I usually gravitate toward dark and twisty crime novels, but I needed a break from the who-done-its. I'm almost ashamed to say I judged this book by its cover. Its image of the so ugly he's cute little bulldog in his wizard hat convinced me to take a chance and buy it. Glad I did. This book is breezy and funny and left me with a smile. Orson the bulldog is a real charmer, and yes, I mean that both senses of the word.

Witch Sheila, has travelled down to Florida on Coven business. When she doesn’t return and they can’t get hold of her, Gabriel, her boyfriend, and Orson, her psychic talking-dog, set off on a road trip from New York to search for her. Whilst trying to locate Sheila, with minimum outside help, especially from her Coven, Gabriel and Orson also have another problem. A mysterious brute wizard named Yareth wants Orson, and he and his henchmen are determined to get him. Yareth may also know where Sheila is, but he’s not telling. Travel with the duo on this never-ending, funny road trip. I mean, what could be funnier than a dog who should try stand-up? This is a fantastic, fantasy novel with a twist. It is hilarious throughout, so much so, that at times you will find yourself giggling out loud. The banter that Gabriel and Orson have going is the main culprit for the comedic effect. The characters are well thought-out, the setting is beautiful – well, who doesn’t like sunny Florida, and the plot is superb. From the opening chapters to the final one, this book kept me hooked to its pages. We don’t actually find out what has happened to Sheila until near the end, so the mystery of her disappearance keeps us guessing for nearly the full length of the book. A fun, exciting, engaging, mysterious read.

I look forward to Victor 's next outing into the magical that surrounds us, particularly with heroes like Orson and Gabriel to see that right triumphs. Just in case the fair witch needs an assist. Great and fun read, suspense included. Karen

Gabriel’s girlfriend Sheila is a witch that has been sent on errands for her coven that have increasingly bothered her. Now it’s been two weeks since Gabriel and Orson, Sheila’s bull dog familiar, have heard from her. It’s especially worrisome sine Orson cannot sense Sheila any more. So Gabriel and Orson go on a road trip to Florida, the last place they have heard from Sheila. But it’s not going to be easy to find her and when there is a plot to dognap Orson things get really serious. Gabriel is a regular guy that cares about Sheila and plans on saving her from whatever trouble has found her. I loved Orson, he is so snarky and I can see any dog acting the same way. I’m a total sucker for animals. But the part I really liked was how Sheila got herself out of trouble, you don’t usually see that in stories. This is a cute cozy mystery with lots of Orson snark and a wonderful plot. I loved each character and how they stood out on their own. If you like paranormal cozy mysteries make sure to check out Tail & Trouble. As for me, I can’t wait to read other books by Victor Catano. I received Tail & Trouble for free from Sage’s Blog Tours in exchange for an honest review.

As a dog lover when I read what this book was about I had to check it out & was not disappointed. The story starts with Gabriel and Orson (the dog) on a road trip to Florida to find Gabriel's girlfriend Shelia (and Orson's mama). Through some fantastic adventures they finally find Shelia but have to deal with powerful dark magic to get their lives back. I enjoyed this book from the very first page & look forward to reading more by this author. My only complaint is that the author lets his own politics be known in the story & while that is his choice it can turn off some readers. Bulldogs are profoundly lovable with their squat chunky bodies, slobbery kisses and earnest demeanor - and Orson is the most attractive of the bunch. He rapidly steals the spotlight with his ability to talk and work magic. When his Mama (Sheila, a powerful young witch) goes missing, Orson and Gabriel (her boyfriend) follow her trail to Florida. Victor Catano's depiction of Florida hits the target. I loved how he described the attractions and hotels of Orlando as lampreys feeding off a mouse eared shark. Also liked his creative use of Dinosaur World. Whether you are a Florida resident or merely a visitor there is a lot to enjoy. The setting works well with the plot highlighting the comic aspects. I absolutely cracked up when I discovered the climactic battle was to take place at The Holy Land Experience which is a weird place even by Christian standards. Tail and Trouble is tons of fun. It has a great canine lead, oodles of Florida humor, bad guys who are as laughable as they are malevolent, and just a touch of romance - what more could a reader ask for in a light paranormal/comic romp. 5/5 I received a copy of Tail and Trouble from the publisher and netgalley.com in exchange for an honest review. --Crittermom

Tail and Trouble is such a great book. I love to read anything that involves witches, magic, and so forth. This book had it all. I thought the characters were very believable and I connected with them immediately. Orson the bulldog is quite the character,I couldn't help but fall in love with him. Gabriel is panicked that his girlfriend Sheila has not returned from a coven errand. Since Gabriel is not familiar with witches, he is on his own trying to locate her. It's not unusual for Sheila to disappear for a while, but in his heart Gabriel knows she would never leave Orson, Sheila's familiar, for that long. Orson and Gabriel team up and begin their search. Before long they are caught in a whirlwind of dark magic and finding Sheila may prove to be impossible. I received an ARC of this book in exchange for my fair and honest review.
