Overview

An uncommon dog. A determined owner.

And their shared belief in possibility.

Rugby Jones had it all. Top dog on a beautiful Pennsylvania horse farm, keeping the cat and dogs in line, helping his human mom Claudia with the horses — rascally Rugby lived the quintessential dog’s life. Until that tragic day when another dog injured him beyond repair. Rugby Jones was paralyzed, his lower back ruined; put him out of his misery, everyone said. But Claudia refused to accept common wisdom. She knew Rugby Jones had the will and courage to overcome. If they both worked hard together — the way they always did — Claudia and Rugby would find a way for him to walk again. Written in Rugby Jones’ lovably cocky six year-old voice, The "Tail" of Rugby Jones will captivate children and adults alike with its message of:

- hope in a hopeless circumstance

- courage to be different in a “let’s be alike” world

- determination to take the "dis” out of disability

- unexpected trust that comes from unconditional love

“Rugby Jones is indeed an inspiring and motivating dog! He teaches us that life is what we make it, and it has nothing to do with disability. I love his “can-do” attitude. He is a great example that everyone should follow. So, live life to the fullest and never give up, no matter what.”

—Gloson Teh, 11 year-old Malaysian author of Creative and Funny Poetry For Kids

    Charming and On Target

I have no idea why someone gave me this book but I'm glad they did. Otherwise, I never would have heard about Rugby Jones. This paralyzed dog is very funny - sharp and smart - and he seems to be right on the money about being happy he's different from other dogs. Living with a teenage boy who has to have everything his friends have and is so afraid of being different, I appreciate hearing the message that difference is good. This is a book for a lot of age groups. It looks like a kids' book but I want my teenager to read it and I have the feeling there are some adults I know who could use a good dose of Rugby Jones!

The Inspiration of a Handicapped Dog

I am so glad that there is finally an upbeat, positve book for handicapped children. The Tail of Rugby Jones is funny, happy and full of life. And Rugby Jones is a great example of someone who doesn't let a handicap limit what he does.

Author Claudia Broome has created a wonderful story my family can share for a long time.

Finally! A Hero For Special Needs Children & Everyone In Their Lives

As a parent of a special needs child, I am ecstatic that there is finally a book on the shelves like this one. This book is upbeat and goes directly to the hearts of special needs kids parents as well as the kids themselves. Maybe I should have reversed the order in my previous sentence since the book is directed to the children themselves. The hero is a handicapped dog, who immediately stole the hearts of my whole family. His "can do" and make the best out of life attitude is such an inspiration. The hero is one very funny and lovable little guy.

Great for kids and adults !

Rugby Jones is truly a very inspiring book. The story of his life is captivating. I really enjoyed reading about his quintessential life, sadly the unfortunate accident, but most of all his courage to turn tragety into hope. This book is very good reading for kids and adults. I am sure everyone will enjoy this wonderful story about a lovable dog and a blessed friendship. " RUGBY YOU ROCK "

    Everybody Should Reads This!

This is a great book. Simple to read but big on ideas. I think all kids would love it but especially any kids who have trouble at school with being bullied because they look or act different. Also I think it's a wonderful book for children who have a disability of some kind.

The title character is Rugby Jones who has to be the cutest corgi ever made. He tells his story in a way that makes you want to read the next page and the author has provided some really excellent photographs to accompany the story.

How a dog motivates can change lives.

I was so impressed by this book because of the reaction my daughter had as I read it to her. She has a physical disability and gets picked on quite bit on the bus. As I read to her, she kept pulling the book out of my hands to see the pictures. This morning, she was almost happy to try out what she learned from Rugby.

The "Tail" of Rugby Jones by Claudia Broome

As I dog owner, I was thrilled to obtain my copy of Rugby Jones. As a person with disabilities, I fell in love with this life-affirming book. Rugby Jones was the top dog on a Pennsylvania horse farm. Rugby lived the quintessential dog's life until tragedy happened. Another dog accidentally injured Rugby, ruining his back beyond repair, but this was not the end for Rugby Jones- it was a beginning. With the assistance of owner, Claudia, Rugby Jones came through this tragic event with a combination of hard work and determination, not to being "healed", but by turning disability into ability. Rugby is a cocky little Penbroke Welsh corgy, who tells his story with sass and sincerity. Rugby captures readers young and old with his tale suffering and triumph. Claudia Broome is a well-respected motivational speaker and coach, who inspires readers as well as hearers with message of hope and hard work. This book is recommended for all libraries. It is a must addition for reading lists for disability issues.

    Courage on Wheels

This book is a perfect example of the kind of message kids need to hear. It deals with disability from a positive point of view. It talks about hard circumstances in a "I can do it" way. Its a simple read, full of pictures of animals that kids love. And it encourages kids who have something different in their lives to find out why that makes them special.

I originally bought the book to help a little boy who was being picked on in school. He loved the book and went on Rugby Jones' website and found out the character has an Anti-Bully Team. It really is helping him cope with his situation.

    I Also Recommend:

Parents, siblings and teachers of special needs kids need this book

This book and its hero Rugby Jones melted my heart. To read an up beat and positive book telling of a potentially sad story is wonderful. This story will connect with all people who have a special needs person or animal in their lives. I loved it.
