Overview

To celebrate Peter's birthday, Frederick Warne is publishing new editions of all 23 of Potter's original tales, which take the very first printings of Potter's works as their guide. The aim of these editions is to be as close as possible to Beatrix Potter's intentions while benefiting from modern printing and design techniques.

The colors and details of the watercolors in the volumes are reproduced more accurately than ever before, and it has now been possible to disguise damage that has affected the artwork over the years. Most notably, The Tale of Peter Rabbit restores six of Potter's original illustrations. Four were sacrificed in 1903 to make space for illustrated endpapers, and two have never been used before.

Of course, Beatrix Potter created many memorable children's characters, including Benjamin Bunny, Tom Kitten, Jemima Puddle-duck and Jeremy Fisher. But whatever the tale, both children and adults alike can be delighted by the artistry in Potter's illustrations, while they also enjoy a very good read. Because they have always been completely true to a child's experience, Potter's 23 books continue to endure.

I was so happy to get this Free NookBook by Beatrix Potter. It was an old library book and usually these free books are unreadable. This one is terrific. Beatrix Potter's beautiful watercolors of the Tailor, the cat "Simpkin", and the mice in their finery are all here. If there ever was a time I could enjoy seeing a mouse, this is it. The story is sweet. The tailor is very poor, but he wants to make a coat for the Mayor of Gloucester. He sends Simpkin out in the snow to buy food and some "twist" (cherry colored thread), to finish the coat. The story comes alive with Potter's delightful watercolors of the tailor, Simpkin the cat, and the formally dressed mice who help the tailor. It's a wonderful book for Beatrix Potter fans and children of all ages.

A magical setting in wintry England brings us a tale of devotion and triumph, written with the loveliest language a child's ear could imagine. Beatrix Potter lives on through her marvelous mice, in a book small enough for the hands of little ones but big enough to swell the hearts and imaginations of those of all ages.

The ill tailor is in a jam. He has freed all the mice his cat had caught for supper, and in turn, his devious cat has hidden the last skein of twist (thread) for the Lord High Mayor's Christmas/wedding waistcoat. During the night, the grateful mice finish stitching the coat, all except the last buttonhole because they run out of twist. Not to be outdone by kind mice, the cat relents and returns the twist to the tailor. All is saved for the old man. A long story rich with beautiful pictures and clever plot, the story appeals to young and old alike. For over 3; perhaps broken-up because of its length. A Rabbit Ears Production Storybook Classic. Also comes in audio and video, narrated by Meryl Streep with music by the Chieftains.
