I really enjoyed this book!

Did I enjoy this book: I really enjoyed this book. It was lots of fun and a quick read. I read it every free chance I had and finished it in a day.

When I first started Take a Bow, I was worried that having four narrators would make the story difficult to follow. However, each narrator had such a distinct voice that is was not difficult to follow along. The four narrators are Emme, Sophie, Carter, and Ethan - all freshman at the performing arts school. Each of these four characters were so well written that you wanted to care about them (or not care, as the situation warranted).

Emme was by far my favorite character. To me, she grew the most through her 4 years at the school and she turned into such a great young lady. I loved her from the very beginning of the book and rooted for her until the very end. On the other hand, Sophie was my least favorite character. She was a user and only out for herself. She was one of those people that as long as things benefit her, that is all that matters. I was happy with her ending. I wasn't sure about Carter and Ethan in the beginning but I grew to really like each of them in their own way by the end of the book.

I would really love a sequel to Take a Bow. I want to know what happens to each of these four characters - and some of the secondary characters - when they pursue life after high school. Even a book about their 15 year class reunion or a senior showcase at some point down the road would be awesome! What do you say, Ms. Eulberg???

Would I recommend it: I would recommend this book. It was another great, clean YA read that was fun and quick.

Will I read it again: I may someday in the distant future but it isn't a read every year type of book for me.

Omg loved it!!!

It was an amazing book! The whole time i was hating Sophie for the way she treats emme, laughing at Ben and Jack, yelling at Ethan just to tell emme he loved her, routing on Carter to what he wants not just what others want him to do, and also feeling sorry for Emme because she cant understand that Ethan loves her amd that Sophie is just plain old rude to her! I got this book at my schools book fair and I wasnt even sure I wanted it. When I finished it today I knew i made the right choice buying this book and I highly highly recommemd it( yes i know I said highly twice thats how much I think you should get it.) I finished it in about a week or 2. You should totally get this book! Do it now!!!!!

definitely a book that will have readers singing its praises.

Emme's never been comfortable in the spotlight. Not that she has to be as a song writer. She's fine writing songs and having her best friend Sophie sing them while Emme stays in the background. Except Sophie might not be the friend Emme thought she was. And being in the background might not be enough to get Emme what she wants anymore.

Sophie knows she is destined to be a star. Sure, her path to stardom hasn't gone exactly to plan since she arrived at the New York City High School of the Creative and Performing Arts. But senior year is just starting and she still has time to make a statement. If that means exploiting her best friend Emme and riding on her trophy boyfriend Carter's famous coattails, so be it.

Carter has been playing parts for his entire life. Next It actor. Former Child Star. Soap Opera Actor. Big Ticket Attraction at CPA school performances. Now that senior year is here Carter realizes it might be time to stop acting and start living. Even if he isn't totally sure where that road will lead.

Ethan never worries about performances or auditions. Music is the one thing Ethan knows he is good at even when he manages to ruin everything else--especially relationships. Ethan knows having Emme as a friend makes him a better person. He knows he needs her in his life. What he doesn't know is how to convince Emme that she needs him.

With their time at CPA coming to an end Emme, Sophie, Carter and Ethan are all looking to leave their mark--or at least find there way. At a school where everyone is talented and everyone wants to be famous, these four are going to find out exactly what it takes to shine in Take a Bow (2012) by Elizabeth Eulberg.

Take a Bow is Eulberg's third novel and perhaps her most ambitious to date. It is also possibly my favorite so far.

This novel has four first person narrators. Chapters rotate between Emme, Sophie, Carter and Ethan throughout the novel with Emme and Ethan taking up the bulk of the chapters as the plot progresses. With a variety of voices and techniques (Carter's chapters read like scenes written in a screenplay) Eulberg expertly juggles all four characters making sure they each stand out.

Set in a specialized New York City high school, Eulberg captures the unique stress and frenzy of both getting into and staying in a competitive high school. Being grounded in the school and New York City, Eulberg also writes a well-rounded look at the work and passion it takes to be a performer. Sophie's desperation is especially palpable and sympathetic even when she is at her worst.

Really, though, the star of the book is Emme. Having her narration and also seeing how the other characters perceive her, Eulberg does a phenomenal job showing Emme's transformation as she moves from the background to the spotlight.While all of the characters ring true, Emme will strike a chord with anyone who is waiting for (or has already found) the way to be the star of their own life. Her fears and hang ups are believable as is her shift as she realizes it's time to make a change.

One of the best things about Take a Bow is how aptly Eulberg focuses on the changing friendships of the characters going through the full spectrum from toxic friendships that inevitably fall apart to relationships that can survive anything. While there is a romantic aspect to the story it's really the friendships between all of the characters that make the story stand out.

Take a Bow

I received this book at NCTE this past year. I had so much fun. I meant some really great authors and some really great people! I am currently thinking about going again this year in VEGAS but we shall see because I just recently bought a house. :)

The book is about a group of friends that go a high school that focuses on music and creative arts. They have to audition every semester to stay in the school. It is very difficult to just go and apply, and then attend this high school. Now Emme doesn't think that she is good enough to attend the high school because all she wants to do is write the music, not sing it. On her first day of school is meets the group of guys that are going to be her best friends all through high school. They are going to be there until the end. I think that this aspect of the book made me really love it. You usually read about the girl that has the best girl friend and they are together through the whole book. It made the book more interesting to know that she was having conversation with boys that looked at her as one of the guys instead of a girl that they want to be with.
But you need to understand that this is not a normal high school. Everyone is out to get each other. They all want to be on top. But one thing will keep them all close, the fact that they are really close friends.


If you want a great easy read about a group of friends that stick together until the end, this book is defiantly for you. I really liked this book. It was different and that kept my interest. Elizabeth did such a great job with this book. I would defiantly recommend this book to anyone that loves the music world, yet also loves the book world.

Although I had heard some really great things about this book from other
bloggers and friends, I still didn't know very much about it (to the
point where I really didn't even read the description) so I had no idea
what to expect when I started reading Take a Bow. At first, I was
hesitant that a book with 4 perspectives of different characters could
be succinct and poignant rather than confusing and convoluted. But I was
wrong- the lives of these 4 teens are so intertwined that it's
fascinating to watch their stories unfold together, as told from POVs
from each of them. Reasons to Read: 1.A story about growth and those
pesky highschool years: For such a relatively short book, Take a Bow
takes place over a rather extended period of time. The book takes place
during their senior year of highschool, but includes a number of
flashbacks to explain their relationships to one another and personal
backgrounds. This is something I often find hard to do in YA books,
because I've read so many that tried and just weren't able to keep me
from feeling bogged down and confused in past history that I don't
understand and characters I can't tell apart from one another. But
Elizabeth tries this and is successful- with 4 entire characters that
all stand apart on their own but come together to tell one story. That's
HARD to do- this isn't a story that just happened to fall together. It's
one that was masterfully woven into something beautiful. 2.Truly real
characters: Honestly, I feel like I KNOW Carter, Emme, Ethan and even
Sophie. It's remarkable how much these 4 remind me of myself at times,
and those I grew up with and even know now. There are those you like and
those you're frustrated with and those you admire and those you really
can't stand but put up with for a time regardless. These four are
flawed, but they're strong and remarkable in their own way. And some of
them learn from mistakes, but not all of them do. 3.A passionate
story: Here's what I loved most about Take a Bow: the passion these
four feel for the things they love- it's just RIPPLING in waves off of
the pages. It seems like you can actually feel how much they love
certain things, and how hard they're willing to work for it. Whether
it's a hobby or a person, or a goal, each of them ha something to feel
passionate about. And I think that's so important for everyone to
remember, to find something we each feel passionate about that we can
dedicate time and effort towards simply because it makes us happy and
enjoy life a little bit more. As realistic of a character she was, I
have to admit that I did not care for Sophie in the least. And I felt
like we only scratched the surface with her character, rather than going
as in depth as we did with the other 3- it feels HINTED at, but I never
felt like I really knew her. She felt too shallow- and I have a hard
time believing that there are people that are just that shallow, so I
didn't feel satisfied with how her story ended. Similarily, I also
felt like that in some ways Ethan's story was kind of lacking. So much
of it is spent agonizing over his love life, that I didn't feel like I
had a good sense of what ELSE was going on in his life. Including the
few mentions of the voices in his head- I really wasn't clear where we
were trying to go with that. I honestly was not expecting to LOVE Take
a Bow as much as I did; it's so unlike the typical books I'd pick out
for mysef, but that's exactly what I love about book blogging- I really
get to open myself up to new books I normally would never have picked up
and that's exactly what Take a Bow was for me. Review copy received

What a wonderful, well-written and entertaining book!
I love it when an author is able to write a book with more than one characters point of view - and in this story, we get FOUR of them! Four realistic characters that are fun, quirky and ambitious. And Elizabeth Eulberg nails it! Not once did I get confused as to who was talking or what was going on and it made the story flow so swiftly and perfectly - I loved it!

Meet our four headliners...
Emme is a very talented songwriter who works hard and is very organized. But her lack of confidence and unsupportive friend keeps her from fully coming out of her shell to sing and steal the spotlight...
Sophie is the singer. She knows that shes got it all and will do anything to get what she wants and make it all the way to the top.
Ethan is swoon worthy but as a songwriter, he feels that he needs to create drama and chaos in order to write his songs, unlike Emme who writes from the heart.
And last, but certainly not least, Carter aka the child actor. He's been there already and no longer has the drive to continue being an actor and wants to be able to just be himself and finally do what he really loves to do.

It was amazing to see how their senior year unfolds - who grows and learns from their mistakes, and who doesn't. Most of all, what I loved was being able to live vicariously through all of these characters - I am no songwriter, not an aspiring actress and definitely cannot hold a note even if my life depended on it, lol; but, at some point in our lives, we have all dreamed about it. And Elizabeth definitely gave me my spotlight!

All of you who are big fans of Glee, High School Musical and (here's where I show my true age!) Fame - will enjoy and devour this book over and over again! It's a must read!

This book was fantastic and exceptional. Being a performing arts New Yorker high schooler, I have been through the many hoops of the performing arts audition process and found that I could relate so well to each of the characters, sometimes with Sophie, others with Emme, yet others still with Ethan. I picked this book up at a local warehouse sale for Scholastic, noticing the author's name (having read Prom and Prejudice before, another very enjoyable book, a modern spin on Jane Austen's Pride and Prejudice) and put it on the top of my [read: very large] pile of books to be read. I finally got around to reading it one night, and I picked it up with earnest. It was 11:00PM when I started, and it was 2:00AM the next morning when I finished. While being a fairly easy read vocabulary-wise, and also I was probably at an advantage being able to relate more closely to the performing arts lingo than another reader, this novel engrossed me with the strength and depth of character voices, and the different points of view these voices created to see different situations. I would recommend this book to any other avid teen reader, like me.

Take a Bow was a quick, easy read with a fun setting that centers around the performing arts. The characters are sweet, if a little simple, and the message is an easy one to understand. If you are looking for some new YA contemporary, this one is a good one to add to your TBR list!

Loved it!!

I have really loved Elizabeth Eulberg's previous books and the one was certainly no exception. She takes a look at the high drama world of four friends who go to New York's exclusive High School for Creative and Performing Arts as they battle auditions and shows and just life in general. Its told from each of the four characters perspective which sometimes can be a challenge to hold my attention, but the author really does a great job of keeping you going.
My favorite character is Emme. She grows so much into a wonderful young woman through the book. Actually all the characters grow with the exception of Sophie. She just seems to stay being arrogant. I love the romance that follows Ethan and Emme because its cute. Elizabeth really has brought her teenage characters out more in this book and I can't wait to see what she does in the future. Id even love to see what happens to Ethan and Emme when they are taking that next step.

I myself want to go to a performing arts high school, and find the topic really interesting. This book is fantastic! It will keep you reading for hours! I never put the book down!

LOVED IT!

I'd been excited to read Take A Bow ever since I first heard the premise for it. I generally love books that deal with the arts; be it music or theater and author Elizabeth Eulberg definitely didn't disappoint me.

The story follows the lives of 4 teens during their senior year at a performing arts school and I really loved how the novel alternates between each of their perspectives. Emme and Sophie have very different personalities so it was never confusing when the POV changed and the same thing can be said about the two guys. In fact I think the changing narrative gives you a better sense of exactly who this young people are and the pressure they are under.

Emme was easily my favorite character, she's just so sweet and likeable. Watching her confidence grow as the novel moves along was really great. She's truly the heart of the story and much of what happens with the other 3 characters has a direct link back to her.

Since Emme's in a band with Ethan I loved how the novel focuses a lot on that dynamic, both romantically and otherwise. Thankfully the novel doesn't leave their other 2 band mates, Jack and Ben, out in the cold with nothing to do. As supporting characters go they added a lot of humor to the novel and were as memorable as the main quartet.

The novel's pacing is quick and while there is of course loads of drama between the characters, the story itself is light and fun. It reads a lot like a TV series or film, making you care quickly and holding your attention throughout. If I had to complain about anything it would be that at 278 pages the novel was just too short for me. I wanted to spend so much more time immersed in that school with Emme and her friends.

As you can read from this review I'm basically trying not to gush about how amazing it is and how much you all should read it. However when it comes right down to it, I am gushing, you should read it and I hope you think its as wonderful as I do.

I'm a huge fan of Elizabeth's books so I went into this with really high expectations- they were blown away! I absolutely adored this book!!!

As with Elizabeth's prior books Take a Bow captures the teenage years perfectly. This book is the story of four students in a performing arts high school. I wasn't a performer in high school but the majority of my friends were in choir or theater so much of the competition and drama that takes place in the book was very familiar to me. The joy, the passion, and the heartbreak was all spot on. These students journey to discovering who they truly are and what they really want to be is one that is familiar to everyone even if they aren't into the performing arts.

When I finished this book I had tears in my eyes and a huge smile on my face. I honestly loved or hated all the characters in the book. I can't really say more without spoiling anything but take my word for it you want to read this book. You will love it!!

One last note: I'm not a fan books that are written from multiple points of view. I find them to be confusing and very rarely do they flow well. I admit that I when I realized that Take a Bow was from more than one point of view I rolled my eyes and inwardly groaned. But I was very pleasantly surprised that I never had to question who was speaking, each character had a very distinct voice and the story flowed naturally.
