Many parenting books gear their advice on sleeping difficulties toward babies; however, proper sleeping skills are sometimes not learned until much later in life. Both of these books focus on older children and discuss why some of these kids aren't sleeping, why they need to sleep, and what can be done about getting them to sleep. Teel first made a name for herself with The Floppy Sleep Game audio CD, a collection of songs, instrumentals, kid-friendly yoga instructionals, and creative visualization exercises to help children fall asleep. In this book companion, she expands her holistic approach to behavioral and potentially more serious sleeping problems. Her four-week program begins by showing parents how to prepare children for bedtime and introducing specific guided relaxation meditations (which correspond with meditations on the accompanying CD). This routine is repeated over the coming weeks, with added tips and tricks. While focusing on similar aspects of sleep, Owens (director, Pediatric Sleep Disorders Clinic, Hasbro Children's Hosp.) and Mindell (associate director, Sleep Disorders Ctr., Children's Hosp. of Philadelphia) take a more straightforward approach. Specific problems are examined-including those related to ADHD and common medical conditions-and followed by a series of possible solutions based on the latest research. Meet the Author

Judith Owens, Ph.D., a developmental-behavioral pediatrician, has been the Director of the Pediatric Sleep Disorders Clinic at Hasbro Children's Hospital in Providence, RI, for the last 10 years and is one of the premier authorities on pediatric sleep problems. She is also Director of the Learning, Attention, and Behavior Program at Hasbro and a nationally recognized authority on ADHD. The chair of the pediatric section of the American Academy of Sleep Medicine and a faculty member at Brown Medical School, Owens lives with her family in Providence, RI.

Jodi Mindell, M.D., M.P.H., is a leading authority on clinical sleep disorders in children and the Associate Director of the Sleep Disorders Center at The Children's Hospital of Philadelphia. She is also on the Advisory Board of Johnson & Johnson, the Board of Advisors of Parents magazine, and on the Medical Advisory Board of BabyCenter.com. Mindell lives with her family in Philadelphia, PA.

Owens and Mindell have collectively appeared on over 200 TV and radio shows discussing children's and adolescents' sleep issues, including The Today Show, CBS This Morning, Good Morning America, CNN, and MSNBC.     Not a great book

    This book was not helpful for me and my four year old. The advice is very repetitive and mostly common sense. I was looking for a book that covered what to do when none of the usual stuff works. This wasn't it.
