Ever since I was a teenager, I can remember hearing Focus on the Family's program Adventures in Odyssey on our local radio station. Even though we were far away from the broadcasting station and couldn't always listen, we certainly took advantage of the times when reception was clear. I am so excited to share Adventures in Odyssey with my own kids, and to think that now they have CDs, DVDs, and other resources available. We received Adventures in Odyssey- Take it From the Top for review from Tyndale. With over 5 hours of audio full of different stories, as well as bonus material, this CD set is definitely worth listening to over and over again. We usually listen to audiobooks and CDs in the car on our trips out for errands and things, and this was a set that not only entertained my boys but also taught them valuable lessons. Here is a listing of the tracks/stories, as well as values they taught, on this set: 1. The Inspiration Station (Inspiration) 2. Clutter (Storing Up Treasures in Heaven) 3. Game for a Mystery (Procrastination) 4. Target of the Week (The Folly of Revenge) 5. For the Birds (Responsibility) 6. When You're Right, You're Right (Pride) 7. Grandma's Visit (The Importance of Family) 8. Finish What You... (Responsibility) 9. The Jubilee Singers (Perseverance) I think that one story that resonated with our family was the Clutter story. The Parker family had to part with different "treasures" that had honestly become a source of clutter and frustration, as they were having a yard sale. Our family sometimes struggles with clutter, as well, especially when it comes to those "treasures" we all seem to put on the shelf and never take down for months at a time. Is this clutter really true "treasure," though? You can purchase Take It From the Top from Tyndale for $24.99. (Disclosure: I received this CD set, free of charge, from Tyndale Media, for the purposes of this review.)Was this review helpful? Yes NoThank you for your feedback. Growing up I listened to Focus on the Family's - Adventures in Odyssey, on our local radio station every night at 8:00 and on Sunday mornings before church.
It was on of the highlights of my day and week. I could always count on a good wholesome story. I never have to worry about questionable "language" or grown-up bad humor. The stories and acting always were encouraging and were good examples of what to do in certain situations.
This series, Take It From The Top is no different. I have enjoyed listening to it with my kids and then talking about the stories afterwards. It seems to be a great resource and a wonderful alternative to television. My kids actually beg to listen to it and I gladly turn it on for them (and me).
I found myself learning parenting techniques from the parents just like the kids are learning how to respond to certain situations.
The one thing negative I would have to say is that - some of the voices sound different than I remember growing up. I miss Whit's voice.then again my ears have grown up - so maybe it was just me. (Did I just call myself old?)
The entire series is 5 hours long. Honestly, it just goes too fast. This would be perfect to have along for a road trip or to listen to before bed.
Blessings to you! You are loved!
