In "Tradeoff," Arden spins a tale about Ben and Scarlett, trying to find new passions as work and home become less than enjoyable. "Slugger Gone South," by Alicia Hunter Pace, brings Yankee Marc to Alabama for a celebrity golf tournament and inadvertent run-in with his former fiancée. Amanda is struggling to keep her family business afloat in Leslie P. Garcia's "Safe at Home" and turns to local sports hero Josh for a celebrity endorsement. In "That Ol' Team Spirit," by Bea Moon, high school sweethearts reunite to right a wrong from decades earlier. VERDICT Baseball-loving romance readers will gravitate toward this title; for anyone who appreciates variety and quick tales. [Xpress Reviews, 11/1/13.]—Kellie Tilton, Univ. of Cincinnati Blue Ash

Half and Half Trade Off by Elley Arden My favorite of this coll

    Half and Half

    Trade Off by Elley Arden
My favorite of this collection! Ben’s sweetness and charm just shine through the words on the page, and Scarlett’s shift from all-business to woman-in-love keeps you invested in the story. I didn’t want to put it down! Maybe it’s because I check the same box as these two, but there was something so refreshing about reading a romance in which the main couple are both a bit more *ahem* mature. I will definitely be looking for more work from Elley.

Slugger Gone South by Alicia Hunter Pace
I’m feeling a bit wobbly about this story. While the writing is beautiful and the characters solidly true throughout, the amount of anger Marc brings to the story made me uncomfortable. He and Bailey have a rough start but end up snuggled in a closet at the end, so I guess Marc’s anger shouldn’t bother me…but it does. I fully admit this has more to do with my perceptions than with the book itself. While I probably wouldn’t read this story again, I would definitely check out more by this author.

Safe at Home by Leslie P. Garcia
If this was a stand-alone novella, I’d give it two stars. While Amanda is an interesting character, Josh is inconsistent and not very note-worthy. The pacing is a tad slow and the plot a bit of a stretch.

That Ol’ Team Spirit by Bea Moon
Nothing about this particular story could keep my attention. There was a huge focus on the mystery surrounding the death of a ball player decades before with very little time left for the rekindled romance between Trish and Rob. Both characters came off immature and angry and just…not very likeable. I skimmed the last third and nothing I read made me want to go back and restart. It’s just not my style.

Overall I’d rate this book three stars. While the last two stories didn’t really make me stay up late reading, the first two were well done. I’ll definitely be looking into more books/stories by Elley Arden and Alicia Hunter Pace.
