Editorial Reviews

Publishers Weekly
This serviceable and solid Victorian romance mostly takes place in the fictional country of Moricadia, long oppressed by the despotic de Guignard family. Raul Lawrence, the rightful heir to the Moricadian throne, is distracted from his covert revolutionary activities by Victoria Cardiff, a traveling governess, who recognizes him from a childhood encounter. Afraid that she will betray him, he kidnaps her. The sparks of their romance flicker against a backdrop of revolution, as Victoria slowly yields to Raul's caresses and the de Guignards decide to put a stop to his ambitious activities. Dodd (Chains of Fire) combines the two stories in a satisfying arc that delivers sensual sizzle, though some readers will flinch at scenes of aggressive seduction that verge on the nonconsensual. Silly fun!

Ha ha! This romance is perfect when you are in the mood for a good laugh. The book is filled with ridiculous characters; such as a prince of a made up country, an English governess, renegades living in the hills, villainous usurpers and an icy Earl. Enjoy!

    Great Heroine!!

I absolutely loved this book, the characters were fantastic, the wit was rapier sharp, and the romance was great! All too often the leading ladies in romance novels are overshadowed by the men who sweep them off their feet; this is sooo not the case with Miss Victoria Cardiff! Raul is Prince Saber in disguise and attempting to win back his throne, after building himself up from nothing despite a past that will make you want to wring his father's neck; of course he's also handsome, forceful, and all to accustomed to getting his own way. So it's no surprise to the reader that when Victoria accidently imparts Raul's secret, his immediate solution is a kidnapping plot! Poor Raul, he has no idea what he's in for! Victoria may be his captive, but she decides if she wants to surrender; she's smart, witty and all-to-capable as a few Gentleman find out much to their detriment. Any heroine who "shoots to kill" gets four stars from me! Victoria is a great character, and a great match for Raul; I highly recommend getting to know her by reading this book you'll love her!

Not my favorite Christina Dodd book

It was O.K., but not amazing. Dodd's usually a terrific writer, so I'm surprised that this book didn't hold my interest like her others. Prince Saber is a pretty flat character. Supporting characters Danel and Prospero are far more interesting than the brooding future king. Victoria is a great heroine, though, and her employer, Mr. Johnson would make a great leading man in a book.

    A Wonderful Love Story!

This is the story of Lady Victoria Cardiff and the Renegade Rebel Leader Saber Lawrence.

Saber is on quest to seize control of his country. He will let nothing stand in his way, especially not the "Prim and Proper" Lady Victoria. But after he saves her life and the two kiss - things get a bit complicated. Lady Victoria figures out is that Saber is actually Raul - the rightful Prince of Moricadia.

Saber then kidnaps Lady Victoria to ensure she keep quiet with this knowledge and to keep her safe from his enemies. Saber finds himself struggling to stay on task. He knows what he must do to --- but will he have the strength???? Will he lose all that he holds dear???

If you are a fan of Historical Romances --- "Taken by the Prince" is a MUST HAVE!!!!!

    a warm tale of love

Prim and proper Lady Victoria Cardiff came close to falling off a balcony, but rakish Raul Lawrence saved her life. After his rescue, they share a kiss.

In the dictatorial Principality of Moricadia, Victoria the governess accompanying her charge and Raul meet for the second time. They are attracted to one another, but he has no time for a female in his life though he loses focus on his mission and fears she may know his secret. Raul is both the long lost rightful Prince of Moricadia and the rebel leader Saber. As he leads the counter insurgency against the de Guignard tyrannical rule, he locks away Victoria to insure she cannot inform anyone what she knows and to keep the woman he loves safe from being used as a pawn by his enemies.

The latest Victorian Governess Bride romance continues the Moricadia arc (see In Bed With The Duke) with a warm tale of love. The rebellion subplot serves more as a catalyst of love than a suspense element though it does move forward the anticipated battle between freedom and tyranny. Readers will enjoy Victoria's Moricadia adventure as her heart is Taken by the Prince of the principality.

The review does not say it, but this is #9 in the governess bride series. It follows the Jude and Caroline story.
