From a beta reader-I must tell you that everything I've read lately has bored me to tears...until today. Honestly, I could not put TAKEN down. I was pleasantly surprised. I felt the author captured each character's personality and conveyed them to the reader with such clarity, that they felt like real people. I was thrilled with how the book ended---Lucilla

From The Author

Years ago a small child was taken from his home not far from where I live. The child was never found. His disappearance haunted me over the years, and still does. Hopefully someday I will know what happened to that little boy.

It breaks my heart every time I hear a news report about a missing child. So I suppose the disappearance of that little boy long ago and those heart breaking news stories is what drove me to write TAKEN.

From the Inside Flap

The first snow storm of the season made driving treacherous. Red lights on emergency vehicles suddenly flashed up ahead. Flares lit up the highway. Teddy braked harder when the state trooper standing on the center line came into view. The trooper waved his arm and pointed toward the opposite lane from the accident. Teddy breathed more freely and moved on.

Evading detection was easy this time. Sliding into a ditch and needing to be rescued like that other driver would be a downright injustice after making it this far.

    Sorry

I applaud people who take the time to write and put themselves out there but in all honesty this book was not very good. It felt very choppy, and all over the place. The Author never really explained motives, feelings, etc but only touched on them a little. Perhaps I am alone in wanting a well written, well built up book. I never got into the characters and that ending was bad. Thank goodness this book was only .99.

    Very Good

Enjoyed the build-up, it moved along. Characters were compelling - a good rainy day suspense.

I Meet Jack Frost (part 1)

Racheal sat up in bed when her window creaked open. She got out of bed and closed them. Makeing sure it stayed that way. But when she turned around, a shadow of a man loomed over her. Racheal gulped and backed up. The shadow grew larger and it spoke in a cold whisper. "At last! I found the girl the Jack has been watching over. Hes not here to protect you now Racheal."
what the he<_>ll was he talking about?
Racheal glared. "Its just a shadow. Your hearing things Racheal." She sat on the bed. Before she could lay down, cold, dark hands grabed her mouth and dragged her toward the window. It flew open as if welcomeing her. Black shoes appeared on her feet and a black cloak replaced her t-shirt and sweat pants. Racheal struggled and let out a muffled scream as she was dragged out the window and toward the snow covered floor.....
part two at next result.

This is more a review of the formatting of this book than of the story. I think the story might've been really good, but when Page 1 of the NOOK version plops you (I'm guessing) near the end of Chapter 19 (Chapter 20 starts on Page 17) it's extremely difficult to catch up and get to know the characters. I hate to do Debra Lee a possible disservice by complaining about the formatting but cannot reasonably review the book as I was unable to access the entire book. By about Chapter 22 I'd figured out who had stolen the baby but still think it's probably a decent read .... I think it would have been great to get to know the characters in the first 18+ chapters. The suspense in Chapters 20-end was pretty good!
