Overview

Earl Sewell’s extraordinary novel is an unforgettable story about the chances we take and the possibilities that are waiting just around the next corner.

Nina Epps got married too young, to the wrong man, for the wrong reasons. With her lazy, womanizing husband still trying to call all the shots and her grown daughter throwing away success for a no-account spouse, Nina’s quiet spirit is finally waking up, smelling the coffee and telling her to grab herself a big cup….if it isn’t already too late.

When Richard Vincent got married, he didn’t know it was a package deal---a wife, her freeloading sister, and an in-your-business, crazy –like-fox mother-in-law. To protect his son, the easygoing doctor has played “yes” man to his scheming family’s outrageous requests for years, until a final, devastating blow leaves him robbed of everything he’s ever thought he had.

Knocked sideways by life, Nina and Richard are looking for a way out, but what they find is a way in. Now they must both stand firm and face the difficult challenges ahead, and as hope grows ripe, they are about to discover love’s endless ability to heal and sustain when there’s no way of knowing what the next day will bring.

Meet the Author

Earl Sewell was born in Chicago, Illinois and attended Columbia College where he studied Creative Writing. Later, Sewell pursued his dream of becoming a published author. However, after receiving over forty rejection letters from New York publishing houses, he gave up on idea and in 1990 entered Corporate America.

Nine years passed before Sewell realized that he wasn’t living up to his full potential. His passion for writing was so overwhelming that he found it impossible to ignore his calling. He decided to take a leap of faith and start his own publishing company which he named Katie Books, after his late mother. He published his first novel in 1999 and sold several thousand copies of it locally. By 2001 he had a solid following and New York publishing houses were eager to purchase the rights to his work and distribute it nationally.

Sewell has written a total of seventeen novels over the past eleven years. His books have held steady positions on regional bestseller lists and have been featured in many publications, such as The Washington Post, Publishers Weekly, Upscale Magazine and Jet Magazine

    Superb

Rubylee is definitely the mother-in-law from hell. This book paints a desciptive picture of how marriages can be torn apart by meddling in-laws. Richard gained peace and happiness in the end, and he deserved every bit of it.

IT'S ALL ABOUT KEEPING IT REAL

Who ever knew that another urban artist would have so many skills when it comes down to writing novels. This book drew my attention in the store and I'm glad I bought it. However, the depth of it distracted me from work and the ability to sleep. I read this book in four hours so you know that it's worth it. I'm really glad rubylee got what she deserved because I started getting iritated that her plan was working. I do feel sorry though for Richard's son for losing a mother at a young age but she did that to herself. As for Nina (applause)

Author of ONE TIME TOO MANY, Claudia Brown-Mosley

I was always told never judge a book by it cover. But this time I seen this cover and I pick it up and read the back. Right than I knew that it was worth my money. This is the first book I have read of his. The way he brought the people to life was just incredible. I never meet a mother-in-law or person like that in my whole life. It was just incredible what money will do to a person. She got everthing and more for what she did to her daughters. The mother had a powerful influence on the daughter so tight that she couldn't breath. I laugh and I cried and I haven't read a book like this in a long time. I read this book in two days from the time I get to go to work in between breaks and at night. I couldn't put this book down. I'm going to recommend this book to my book club and all my friends.

    This is a great read!!!!!!!

Though this may be a book of fiction, it has a lot of reality between it's covers. This book opens all the emotions a human can have. Somtime it's good to have a cry with that laugh. The type of book that will not let you put it down until you have read the last word and flipped the final page in a single sitting. Looking down at the back cover, with book in lap, as a shudder courses through your body. Realizing, this is someone I know or for that matter....me. The thoughts of, 'How did I get myself in this predicament and how I do get myself out of it' sear through your mind. Oh Yes! Its that serious. But, Mr.E. Sewell gives you plenty of humor too. Above all, I truly appreciate seeing wrong being overcomed by right. But, as you can see, it's hard, hard work. Buy this book, you will not be disappointed. Thanks, Earl Sewell, for writing such a awesome book.

    Finished in 2 days

I must commend Mr. Sewell on this book. This was the first I had read by this author and it was entertaining. It's a shame that what people would do just for the love of money. This books will let you know what people would do for the love of money. The devil knows when you got a good thing, because he gets busy and that just what Rubylee did. She deserved everything she got. In my opinion she was not a mother figure at all. But you reap what you sow. This is a must read!!!!!!!!

    Excellent Reading!!!!!

This was a real page-turner! I picked it up and couldn't put it down!!! Each chapter was skillfully designed to take you to the next 'situation' in the lives of two people who were unhappy in their marriages. Thank GOODNESS there was a happy ending! I began to worry if poor Richard was going to find a way out of his situation before he was completely penniless! And Miss Nina got her groove back in a delightful way! Kudos to Earl for a job well-done. I hope he continues to put out more writings such as this one. I'll be first in line to buy the next one. (Finished it in less than 24 hours).

    Part Two, Please!

This was an excellent book. I finished it in less than four hours. The author did a great job in his visualization of the characters. Although the bank job with Rubylee and Red was a bit farfetched, it still made for an juicy twist to the story. There are many 'Rubylees' in the world who take advantage of family members. Estelle's family was like a leech who eventually sucked the live out of her. The book also shows consequences one suffers when one makes the wrong choices as Estelle did in sticking by her deadbeat family and instead of her husband, Richard. This story could actually be continued in a part two which picks up with the developing relationship between Richard and Nina and his young son and Richard's former sister-in-law and niece who resurface to pick up where Rubylee left off.

    Taken for Granted Indeed!

5 Stars!***** This book had me going all the way through it. I could not believe how manipulating his mother in law RubyLee was! She was a street hustler from the word go, she used her daughter endlessly, she didn't care one bit if she ruined her happiness. I felt for Estelle, she always felt no matter what she had to do for her mother, all the while she was complaing of a severe headache. Her mother, her sister and her daughter moved in to their home and wrecked havoc. Richard takes a trip to the Bahama's where he runs into Nina who also thought it would be good to get away and clear her head.So happy that they ran into eachother again, they spend time getting to know eachother more, sharing a knowing, they find comfort in eachother and eventually love like they never knew before.. Richard returns home to find Estelle dead, she had a blood clot in her brain . And to find that RubyLee had used his Social Security number to draw out his bank account. Nina returns home to a place of her own. After all the smoke clears..they start to build a life together... This was a page turner....very realistic...

    Rubylee was too much!!!!

this book was soooo good. It will be good for both husbands as well as wives. It is about a meddleing, conning, no good mother-in-law that over passes the line with persuasion and nagging. Talk about getting a package deal Rubylee was from the ghetto getting the life of a queen through her daughterher husband and their funds.
