What do you get when you take one Dom, add a geeky girl, throw in some leather, computer equipment and a coffee shop?  You get Taking Over Me, the first book Geek Kink series by Sara Brookes. This fun sexy story is filled with great characters, great sex and great coffee that will have you looking at your barista in a whole new way.

After reading several books by Sara Brookes I've come to the realization I really prefer her longer books versus her novellas. Why? Because novellas are just not long enough to thoroughly enjoy the characters she creates. Allison and Patrick are perfect! Not that they are perfect. Oh no, they are flawed with complicated baggage and have wounded hearts. That's what makes them so perfect and why I get so attached to them. Lovable underdogs. Patrick is all hunky and Allison, who is the super geek (I love it when the girl's the geek!) is just one of the guys. Talk about opposites attract! I found the building of the friendship into something more very sweet and real. And the sexual attraction and heat between them...YOWZA! Okay, I do have to admit I did rate this book 4-flames even though I don't think it should be but, because of the BDSM aspect, I cranked it up a notch. As for the plot, LOVED IT! It flowed smoothly with a nice build up and all the character introductions had a nice, natural rhythm. About those secondary characters, I simply adore them. Instead of being near blurbs in the story they are contributing factors and enrich the story. The added plus is I know this is a series and I really look forward to seeing them again in another book down the road.

To be honest, I read a the second book in Geek Kink series first so I know what's coming. However, now that I have read Allison and Patrick's story I have a better understanding of how this series is going to work. And, even though I think books can be read as stand-alones, I really do recommend reading the series. So now that I have finished Taking Over Me I will bide my time by re-reading Rock Your Soul and anxiously wait for the 3rd book to come out.

I received this book from JeepDiva for the express purposes of an honest review. The opinions and rating of this review are solely mine and in no way was I compensated.

Taking Over Me is the first book in the Geek Kink series by Sara Brookes. I chose this book because the summery interested me. After reading the summery, this story has such promise.

Allison is a geek, she would rather work on a computer than find a date. Parts of Allison are easily relatable to most women. She has a very believable problem, she is not seen as a women by the men she hangs around with. She is just a buddy to them. She is a intelligent, and fun character. She is not stupid in anyway.

Patrick started a coffee business with his brother Alex. Allison comes to the rescue opening day. She gets him to upgrade the computers. Patrick likes to be in control. Patrick comes across as the type of person that most women want. He is honest, hardworking and cares for the people he is around.

The chemistry between Patrick and Allison is off the charts. The sex scenes are hot and spicy. The only thing I do not understand why Patrick exploded when he did not like how Allison’s friends treated her. He did not take the time to get to know them.

I enjoyed the secondary characters in the book; I do hope that Ms. Brookes plans to write about them. There was nothing that could make this story better. Overall, this was a wonderful story. I cannot wait for the next book in the series.

Reviewer’s Note: This book was originally published under the title ‘Hardware’. The original version was published November 1st 2010.

Delightful Heroine, Steamy & Well-Written Scenes

Taking Over Me is an immensely satisfying story along with being super steamy as it deals with the BDSM lifestyle. This is a story about seemingly opposites attracting and the freeing nature of the BDSM lifestyle as a girl geek discovers her wild side after meeting a sexy barista. Allison has always seen herself, and been thought of by others, as one of the boys. She loves working on computers, reading comic books, hanging out with the guys for video gaming night, and dresses for comfort instead of attraction. She dates, but not very often. She's a strong-willed woman though who's comfortable in her own skin. She thinks herself way out of Patrick's league but he finds her fascinating. Their relationship goes from 0 to 60 on their first date as she's been obsessed with him from their first meeting. The excitement he represents and the fulfilling of her fantasies that he promises has her diving in wholeheartedly to what he offers her. He's a Dom and wants her to be his Sub in some very tantalizing sexual interludes where she is the center of his attention. As BDSM stories go, it's hot but not as graphic as some other titles I've read. There's usage of cuffs, collars, and toys but nothing leaning towards the more darker side. These interludes allow Allison to become bolder, like seeing a butterfly come out of its cocoon. She takes pride in being a woman as opposed to hiding amongst the boys. She's an admirable heroine who sticks up for herself and doesn't let her role of Sub in the bedroom be confused with her actions out of the bedroom.

Patrick's dealt with disappointment in his past as a sports injury changed his future. He now owns a coffeehouse with his brother Alex who's dealing with his own issues right now. Patrick is charming with a sense of darkness surrounding him. He freely admits to being a Dom on his first date with Allison and loves the sense of wildness he sees behind her controlled facade. He wants her to come out and play with him as opposed to gaming with the boys. He wants to remind her that she's a woman and proves it through numerous steamy scenes where her satisfaction is his goal. Seeing him join her in her geek world while joining him in his decadent one showed two people truly wanting their relationship to work and I found these scenes delightfully fun. Late in the story we discover Patrick's abusive past courtesy of his father. This fact came out of nowhere and rears its head unexpectedly during a ridiculous disagreement between him and Allison. It brings heretofore undiscussed fears of him becoming his father to light and leads to a Big Misunderstanding that is resolved quickly through words of wisdom from friends and family. The ensuing HEA is sexy and satisfying.

Along with numerous steamy and satisfying sexual encounters comes a believable explanation as to why an individual is drawn to BDSM. It shows a devotion to empowerment instead of weakness and makes these characters more self-assured. Surrounding the immensely likable protagonists comes an equally intriguing cast of secondary characters. Patrick's brother and his friends who also live the BDSM lifestyle left a lasting impression on me and I truly hope to see more of them as they have issues to heal from too. Ms. Brookes perfectly balances the physical and emotional aspects of this couple which makes their journey towards a HEA richly rewarding.
