Overview

In New York Times and USA Today bestselling author Toni Aleo’s exhilarating Loveswept debut, the first in a series featuring the hockey hunks of the Nashville Assassins, a reformed bad boy helps a charming, willful woman face off against the demons of her past.

No matter how hard she tries, Elleanor Fisher never thinks she’s good enough, from her job to her weight to her love life. After enduring years of abuse at the hands of an ex-boyfriend, Elli has been drifting through life in a daze. Until, that is, she meets Shea Adler on a promotional shoot for the NHL’s Nashville Assassins. Before Elli knows what’s happening, the gorgeous Shea breaks the ice and shatters her world.

A brilliant athlete inside the rink, Shea Adler is tired of the life he’s living outside of it: the women, the money, the drinking. But everything changes when he meets Elli. After laying eyes on this feisty, witty, beautiful woman, he feels like he’s just taken the hardest hit of his life. No matter how skeptical she is, Shea knows they are meant to be together—if only he can convince Elli to put her insecurities aside before she misses out on a shot at love.

Book Junkie
She (the author) stated that reviewers have said that when reading Taking Shots they felt as though they were a part of the story. Apart of Shea and Elli’s life, as though you were living every moment with them. That couldn’t be more accurate. I do believe that is a great testament of the caliber of writing. Especially by a first time published writer, and what a first book! Toni really started out of the gates with a bang!
Autumn Review
I really truly LOVED the story! Yes, there were quite a few editing mistakes, but the author has since had them corrected. If you have an unedited copy, please overlook the mistakes because you will find a great love story!
A Tasty Read
All in all, I really LIKED Taking Shots. I will DEFINITELY be reading the next book in the series, Trying to Score, which is coming this spring. And I will be keeping my eye out for more book by Toni Aleo, she is one to watch!!

    not worth the money.

the book started out well, had a great idea.

it seemed like the author was trying to just write to make pages because there were times when it became "he walked up to the car. he opened the door. he got in. he started the car." and far, far too much detail about nothing. some moments it was just glazed over when more details could have been added.

Also, shea and Eli started out cute. then one argument after another after another and Eli constantly pulling away and crying over everything and Shea getting pissed over every singe thing. Also, far, far too much of the same details in the kissing and foreplay scenes. over and over it felt like i was reading the exact same scene.

I am a fat girl, so i get the insecurity issues, but i really feel like Eli became a sniveling whiny brat and Shea was just a horny defensive dickhead at times who needed his sister's approval and to tell him how to live every moment of his life.

This book was far too long, full of far, far too many arguments and misunderstands between the "lovers" and far too much.

Enough with the arguments. i actually skipped about 50 pages in, and ...suyrprise came straight to another argument where...surpise Eli was about to walk out on him again.

just too much. if i ever knew a couple that fought that much, i'd pray they broke up and found a good therapist.

    Not worth the money.

i think the writer has great potential as did this story, but it all went downhill...fast.

This author needs a good editor to help her make her sentences much more concise and precise and to leave out the obvious, as the review of Feb. 28 pointed out in her review here. Too much detail that is repeated time and again in too much detail! A good editor could have gotten this down to a much more enjoyable 200 pages from the ereader version of 373.

Ms Aleo also needs a better spell checker or proof reader so that reference to a Broadway performance isn't referred to, as it is in the book , as a "roll," but a role. [I had visions of Elli being a cinammon roll or something, and I don't think this was what the author meant.]

    Absolutely Amazing!

Taking Shots is one of the best romance books I have ever read! Elli and Shea’s story is so enduring and real that you really can’t miss this book. All of the characters from Elli and Shea to all of the supporting characters are extremely real and relatable. Elli struggles with insecurities that many women struggle with every day. The book is also hilarious and there are so many times that I burst out laughing in the middle of reading. Honestly this book is a great read and you won’t be able to put it down!

    Well done!

This book was really well done! I felt the ups and downs were spot on with a real relationship, and this book had just enough of the "romance" to satisfy! Will be sure to look for the next!

3 STARS Taking Shots was first published as a loveswept novel.

    3 STARS
Taking Shots was first published as a loveswept novel. It is a nice story but very hot. Lots of love scenes, swear words.
I like the plot. I like the characters.

The plot is Elli is the new Assassins hockey team photographer. She is very shy and low self confidence. During the teams photo shoot she meets Shea Adler team captain.

Elli has her own business and right now she is a hot. She has great friends, Her dad and Uncle are close to her. The rest of her family is terrible. Eleanor is sweet and nice. She had a bad break up six years ago that she is still dealing with and some health issues.

Shea is a hockey star for the Assassins. He usually has one night stands with barbi dolls. He likes Elli from first meeting her. He has new contacts and ends up taking them out because his eyes are watering. He ends up running into things. Shea realizes that she is different.

Shea has his twin Grace call her and get her to come to his party and be photographer that same week so he can meet her again. Shea is good looking, has beautiful eyes, money and fame. He is really close to his sister. Every time he has been traded she comes with him. If he gets traded again this time will be different now she is married with two kids.

The secondary characters are great in this story. From her best friend who does not do relationships till now. Shea team mate who wants everything home, family. Too his nephew Ryan who calls him Unky.
They enrich the story so well. Their are characters that you want to hate too.

The only things I did not like was the love scenes in details and swear words. I admit I am going to read her next book in the Assassin's series next.

I was given this ebook to read and asked to give honest review of it by Netgalley.

    more from this reviewer

Elli Fisher doesn¿t think she¿s good enough. She lost her Broadw

Elli Fisher doesn’t think she’s good enough. She lost her Broadway career and her fiancée when she suffered from a thyroid issue which caused her to gain a lot of weight. She has always been a huge Assassin Hockey fan but when she gets a chance to photograph the team for a promotional shoot she meets the man of her dreams, Shea Adler.

Shea Adler is a superior athlete and the captain of the Assassins. He has his pick of women but when he sets eyes on Elli Fisher something just clicks and he can’t get her out of his head. Elli can’t believe Adler will give her the time of day and is in shock when he actively pursues her.

I loved this story. It put me through the gamut of emotions from laughing to crying and cheering the characters on. Elli has been verbally abused by the people she trusts and loves so, it was such an incredible journey watching her find her self worth. Shea was wonderful, totally unsure of how to handle Elli, he patiently makes his way straight into her heart. Great read, heartfelt emotions and really hot uber alpha men, don’t miss Taking Shots.

This republished ARC copy of Taking Shots was given to me by Random House Publishing Group - Loveswept in exchange for a honest review. This book is set for publication on April 23, 2013.

    That was a lot....

Of detail....the first few chapters the author described every single move....it did pick up and it did get better. I almost gave up on it but am glad i finished this cute little story. Elli needed to suck it up though and dial down the whiny i'm not pretty enough for you crude she kept spewing.

Ok Toni, what started out as a beautifully written story started turning into a mess! Not wanting to give away any part of the book but, wow, really kind of unbelievable to see Elli believing her ugly, hateful sister over the man who proved his love and devotion to her time and time again! The path you chose for them was just plain painful and immature! Could hardly finish and when I did the HEA left me feeling empty! :-(

    Great Stories!

Important to read the Four books and the Novella in this series in order. Loved every story starting with Shea and Ellie; Taking Shots,, Fallon and Lucus; Trying to Score, Audrey and Tate; Empty Net,, Jordan and Anyslee; the Novella - Falling for the Backup and finally Piper and Erik; Blue Lines... Characters and story lines were all unique and I read all five books in three days WOW!.. Lots of smiles and a few tears and Hockey was always in the background.. Well written and the emotions were right up front.

I have not laughed or cried for a book like in this in some time

I have not laughed or cried for a book like in this in some time.  Toni Aleo has outdone herself and completely blown  me away!

In this book, Shea is a hottie and a hockey player who meets Elli at a photo shoot for the team.
Sparks fly immediately but their story is not a simple one.  Elli has been hurt by many in her past, men, family etc.

Shea tries to show her that he can learn about love and be loyal only to her.

Is an amazing story and I loved every page.  Good read!!
