Editorial Reviews

Children's Literature - Vicki Foote
Based on the animated television series, this book is also one of the "All Aboard Reading" series of books. This book is on level two which is categorized as "Reading with Help." Children and animals relate and talk with each other as they audition for a talent show. Allegra, an alligator, is sure she will win the talent contest, but when she tries out, she gets stage fright. Zoe, the girl in charge of the show, helps Allegra, and when she tries again, she is more successful. Then Allegra finds out that she has to write a song. Zoe again helps Allegra, and after some difficulty, Allegra confesses that she cannot read. Zoe and Allegra work together as a team, and Allegra wins the talent show. The short sentences with only a paragraph on each page, along with the illustrations of the colorful characters, should help young readers stay motivated. The imaginative and bright illustrations are more interesting than the story. Reviewer: Vicki Foote
