More About This Book

Overview

Leigh McRae leads a quiet life in a small Florida town, surrounded by horse farms and alligators. For the sake of her daughter, she has traded her own happiness for job security and a truce with her ex-husband Kenneth, a poster boy for control freaks. But her peaceful existence is shattered when she discovers the body of her friend and fellow horsewoman, Rita Cameron. The police conclude Rita died in an accidental fall from a hayloft. Leigh is sure the death was a murder and she sets out to convince the police to investigate so her friend can rest in peace.

Meanwhile she has to deal with escalating demands from Kenneth, demands that may cost her her horses as well as her home. And on top of everything else, she has to help her cousin Sammi, who's dating a burglar. But Leigh doesn't let personal problems stop her from sleuthing, even though she admits she is not the world's greatest detective. While digging for evidence, she discovers a secret in Rita's past. Now Leigh and her daughter are in danger, and only Leigh's desperate actions can save them.

    A Light & Entertaining Mystery

I breezed through Talented Horsewoman, which I found to be very readable and fun to follow. The setting, story and characters of the novel bring you into a warm, inviting, and realistic world with everyday worries and struggles. The story then effortlessly takes you down a path where a possible murder has occurred. Various players surface, and you are never sure who amongst them carries what secrets and motivations. Dangerous circumstances hide in the shadows and the heroine of the book is the first to realize it.

Apart from an interesting mystery, the story presents some good secondary storylines - the main character, Leigh, is a single, divorced mother trying to raise her young, impressionable daughter while dealing with an interfering ex, navigating dating life, maintaining friendships through difficult times, struggling between dull work and her true passions, and finding her own footing, confidence and courage through it all. She is a very realistic, well-rounded and likable character that you can relate to in various ways and comfortably identify with.

I enjoyed Talented Horsewoman and would not hesitate to pick up another novel by this author, who has a gift for creating inviting worlds and interesting stories.

Talented Horsewoman was crafted by nothing less than a Talented Author

LC Evans' "Talented Horsewoman" is a wonderful story, and I highly recommend it to anyone who loves a good murder mystery.

The story's main character, Leigh McRae, lives in a small town in Florida. She is a single mother and divorcee to an annoyingly controlling ex-husband. When the story begins, she is on her way to meet a fellow horsewoman, Rita, at Rita's farm. She finds Rita, but unfortunately finds her dead. It is up to Leigh to follow her hunch and prove that Rita's death was not an accidental fall from a hayloft: it was calculated murder.

Evans' fine attention to detail makes even a stranger to the Florida area understand the sights, sounds, and feelings of heat, dust, humidity, bugs, ominous storms and the like... as though he or she had lived in the area his or her whole life. Needless to say, given this fine skill, if Evans wants the reader to think Kenneth (the ex-husband) is annoying.....know that he will be under the reader's skin.

Talented Horsewoman was crafted by nothing less than a Talented Author.

J.R. Reardon
author, "Confidential Communications"

    Funny, suspenseful mystery

I ordered Talented Horsewoman on a whim, thinking it would be fun to read during a trip to Florida. It turned out to be an awesome beach read, full of suspense but with a lot of funny moments too. The twists and turns in the mystery kept me guessing till the end, and I loved the details about horse training.
